Position Summary:

The Division of Enrollment Management represents the Offices of Enrollment Management, Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships and the University Registrar. These key functional offices support the campus goals to recruit, retain and provide a first-in-class education to the most talented students, regardless of background. The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships is a key contributor to student success and student access in higher education, administering all types of financial assistance for eligible students demonstrating financial need, academic merit, and/or other merit factor(s). This includes, but is not limited to scholarships, grants, loans, and/or work-study awards.

Applying advanced, specialized expertise, the Director of Financial Aid Services School of Medicine/ College of Health Sciences has programmatic responsibility for all federal, state, institution, and outside agency financial aid programs and services for current medical students, residents, and graduate professional students in the health sciences fields. Regularly resolves individual, complex financial aid situations. Has authority to set financial aid awarding policy for the School/College in consultation with the Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships and appropriate School/College leaders as well. Responsible for applying to all available sources of Federal and State health professions student aid funding and represents the UCI Office of Financial Aid, School of Medicine and College of Health Sciences to the campus, UC system-wide, state, and national organizations/committees concerning the development of financial aid policies, procedures, and laws that affect students in health professions.

Required:

7-10 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Advanced knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices for awarding Federal, State, and Institutional financial aid; specialized knowledge of particular programs.

Advanced knowledge of packaging policies and practices that comply with Federal, State and Institutional policies as well as regulations of private lenders. Advanced knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures.

Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.

Ability to interpret complex policies and develop procedures to ensure compliance.

Ability to calculate and reconcile financial aid with attention to detail and accuracy.

Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.

Project management skills. Advanced written and verbal communication skills. Active listening, persuasion, and negotiation skills. Possesses advanced customer service orientation skills.

Advanced ability to assess processes and implement improvements. Excellent interpersonal skills. Strong social perceptiveness abilities.

Advanced proficiency with standard office software as well as internet and email applications. Thorough knowledge of common University specific computer application programs.

Experience using complex databases; ability to define specifications for database programming. Proficiency manipulating and analyzing large volumes of data. Advanced knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.

Advanced problem identification, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; judgment and decision-making ability.

Strong presentation skills across multiple delivery methods for a diverse array of audiences and audience sizes consisting of health professions students, federal and state officials, alumni, staff, peers at other institutions, and members of the private financial community.

Ability to maintain security and confidentiality of information and records.

Preferred:

Master's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training desired.

Ability to effectively fill both leadership and team participation roles.

Special Conditions Required:

Must successfully pass a Department of Justice background check. Occasional nights and weekends required.
