The Robert Crown Law Library, primarily serving Stanford Law School, seeks an Access Services Specialist who will provide excellent library services to the Law School and to the greater Stanford Community.

JOB PURPOSE:

Working under the supervision of the User Experience Librarian, Access Services Specialists are responsible for staffing the Circulation Desk and providing a wide range of library services. Additionally, they monitor access points, enforce library policies, monitor library study-space and provide delivery services. The Access Services team collaborates on a range of projects such as reserves processing, scanning and delivery of library material, creating documentation, and other duties as assigned. CORE DUTIES*:

Circulation and Access Services Duties (100%)

COURSE RESERVES
  • Either completes specific tasks related to quarterly reserves processing or supervises completion of those tasks, including maintaining spreadsheet of reserves requests, gathering of course reserve materials, creating course reserve records, physical processing of individual reserve items, and arranging the course reserve cabinets.
  • Conducts regular maintenance of course reserve cabinets.
  • Co-ordinates the de-reserving operation at the end of quarter, completing specific tasks as required.


CIRCULATION SUPPORT
  • Staffing service points including the Circulation Desk and providing courteous service to users, including performing routine circulation functions, answering user inquiries, enforcing library policies, and paging material from locked stacks and microfilm collections, as needed.
  • Monitors and responds professionally to the circulation and ILL/document delivery ticketing queues via LibAnswers.
  • Performs stacks maintenance duties.
  • May be responsible for opening and closing activities.
  • May assist in day-to-day management of student staff to oversee project progress and maintain adequate circulation desk staffing.
  • Collects and maintains library statistics; may produce reports for management.
  • Documents work via written guides and spreadsheets.
  • Confers with User Experience Librarian to revise procedures, streamline for effectiveness, and proposes enhancements.
  • Performs library and building walkthroughs.
  • Follows developments in emerging technologies and works with Access Services team members to propose new or updated services.
  • Restocks, maintains, and facilitates ordering of supplies for students.
  • May supervise student assistants.


DOCUMENT DELIVERY
  • Assists with filling interlibrary loan requests, including searching via SearchWorks, OCLC WorldCat, and other systems.
  • Performs scanning and delivery services for law school users, law faculty, law journals, and library staff.
  • Coordinates with other Stanford University Libraries to pull and deliver requested material to law school faculty and law library staff.
  • Assists users in locating and accessing both print and digital materials.
  • Supports digitization projects, which may include scanning, editing images, and technical troubleshooting.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Two-year college degree plus three or more years of experience in an academic library, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand, communicate, and enforce library policy with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Ability to apply judgment in choosing procedures and evaluating alternatives.
  • Ability to learn library operational skills.
  • Basic leadership skills.
  • Computing and word processing skills, including the ability to create, format, and edit spreadsheets and word documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently as well as with a team.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, writing by hand.
  • Rarely use a telephone, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), operate hand controls.
  • Must be able to push and maneuver a fully-loaded cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 70 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Tentative work schedule is Sunday-Thursday, 8am-5pm OR Tuesday-Saturday, 8am-5pm.
  • Work schedule to be determined. May work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Hours are subject to change.
  • May work in confined spaces and at heights 4-10 feet; be exposed to dust and mold.
