General Summary

Due to continued growth in student enrollment, the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) is seeking team-oriented candidates for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in Interior Design beginning on August 16, 2021. The anticipated appointment is 75% teaching and 25% research/scholarly activity. The Department is seeking candidates who will demonstrate their commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education through their teaching, research, and service.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach undergraduate/graduate courses in a CIDA-accredited design program, develop a focused area of scholarship, advise graduate students, provide service to the University and profession, and mentor undergraduate and graduate professional practice students. Continue a record of or potential for research and publication in scholarly peer-reviewed journals in the discipline.

SALARY, RANK, AND TENURE
Salary is competitive and commensurate with professional experience and preparation. This is a tenure-track, nine-month position with potential for summer employment.

THE PROGRAM
In March 2015, the interior design program was reaccredited for a term of six years by CIDA. Currently there are approximately 130 Interior Design undergraduate majors. Students and faculty have the opportunity to participate in domestic and international study tours. In addition, the University's location allows interior design students and faculty easy access to architectural and interior design "Top 100" design firms in Chicago and St. Louis.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of six departments and two schools in the College of Applied Science and Technology (www.cast.illinoisstate.edu). The Department is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) and offers five professional undergraduate programs [Fashion Design and Merchandising; Food, Nutrition and Dietetics; Human Development and Family Science; Interior Design; and FCS Teacher Education]. The department also offers an accelerated master's program (combined bachelor's and master's) and two M.S./M.A. programs, including an Interior Design sequence. The FCS Department houses four accredited programs including: undergraduate interior design (CIDA), undergraduate Teacher Education program (NCATE), undergraduate Didactic Program in Dietetics (ACEND), and a graduate Dietetic Internship (ACEND). The Department has approximately 540 undergraduate and 65 graduate students, 23 full-time and 6 part-time faculty, 2 full-time academic advisors, 2 civil service personnel, and 4 academic professionals at an affiliated Child Care Center.
