General Summary

Maintain and repair Campus grounds and facilities such as lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, roads, sidewalks, and parking lots; move various furniture, equipment, supplies and machinery as assigned.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Plant, prune, weed, seed, roll, rake, spray, sod, mow, trim, water, remove, transplant, fertilize and cultivate various trees, plants, grass, shrubs and flowers.

Maintain Campus streets, walks, parking lots, and other facilities by cold patching holes, packing, grading, sealing joints and cracks, pointing lines and markings and cleaning catch basins.

Remove snow and ice as assigned by sanding, salting, sweeping, chopping, shoveling, and/or operating snow removal vehicles and equipment.

Construct, erect, dismantle, maintain, and store traffic and pedestrian control aids and signs.

Operate and adjust hand and motorized equipment and vehicles such as rollers, mowers, vacuums, sweepers, tractors, loaders, trucks and other related vehicles and equipment.

Paint dumpsters, posts, equipment, picnic tables, sign frames and cases, hand and guard rails and other items as assigned.

Collect, haul and dispose of refuse.

Assist in coordinating work assignments to ensure timely job completion.

Move and transport furniture, supplies, equipment and machinery; load and unload trucks as assigned.

Maintain cleanliness of work and storage areas and all tools, vehicles and equipment used in the performance of duties.

Assist skilled tradespersons as assigned.

Report any damage, malfunction, irregularities and/or potential hazards in buildings, grounds, equipment, vehicles or supplies to supervisor.

Perform application of approved pesticides.

Perform as a loyal and willing employee.

Train other in the performance of the essential duties.

Perform related Departmental duties as required.

Qualifications

Ability to read, write, interpret instructions, and perform basic arithmetic, typically acquired through the completion of a high school education is necessary.

Knowledge of tools, equipment and methods used in grounds maintenance in order to work independently and maintain a satisfactory level of safety is necessary.

Possession of a valid Michigan drivers' license is necessary.

Ability to perform physically active work of a heavy nature, requiring frequent walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling and crouching activity to perform routine grounds keeping functions is necessary.

Ability to perform occasional lifting of a minimum of up to 100 pounds may be required, routine lifting of 50 pounds required.

Able to climb ladders up to 15 feet.
