Institute Associate, Georgetown Climate Center - Georgetown University Law Center

The Georgetown Climate Center (GCC), based at Georgetown University Law Center, seeks to advance effective climate, energy, and transportation policies in the United States - policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help communities adapt to climate change. For ten years, the Center has worked at the nexus of state and federal climate and energy policy to inform federal policies with the lessons of state and local communities and to serve as a resource to the states and local governments we serve.

The Institute Associate, reporting primarily to the Associate Director, and to the Mitigation Program Director on special projects, works on both adaptation and mitigation policy projects in duties that include but are not limited to:

Research and Analysis
  • Conduct short-term advanced research projects, including legal and policy research on relevant regulation and legislation - e.g., clean energy and transportation policies, electric vehicles, etc.
  • Produce superior analysis and communicate effectively through writing and presentations

Outreach, Engagement and Facilitation
  • Facilitate state engagement processes, including convenings and regular group calls, as well as conducting individual calls and meetings
  • Conduct briefings and engage with senior local, state and federal officials, NGO and academic partners
  • Provide staff support for Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI) workgroups as needed

Student Engagement

Assist with supervision of student research on relevant climate mitigation topics, including work done through the climate law practicum course

Special Events and Projects
  • Represent GCC at relevant event and support leadership team with GCC events
  • Prepare updates for publications and presentations
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by Mitigation Program Director or Associate Director as needed
  • Assist with development of reports as requested

  • Advanced degree - J.D. preferred
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in climate mitigation policy
  • Working knowledge of topics related to the electric power sector, low-carbon transportation, and clean energy
