Job Description:

The School of Education (SOE) at Mills College has a long history of commitment to the community's children. In fact, in 1926, Mills became the first college west of the Mississippi to open a Children's Laboratory School and continues to offer a wide range of undergraduate and graduate academic programs and certifications in educator preparation, leadership, and related fields. Currently, the School of Education maintains important collaborative arrangements with neighboring school districts, including Oakland Unified School District and hosts a range of grants-funded programming centered on closing the opportunity gap for diverse youth and inquiry-based work with educators to deepen and extend their teaching practice in a range of settings.

Department: The Educational Leadership department at Mills College is pleased to announce an opportunity for a Visiting Assistant Professor for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Position Description:
This position will entail serving as director of the EdD program, serving as faculty adviser of the online master's degree program in educational leadership, teaching 3-4 courses per year--depending on dissertation chairing load; and chairing doctoral dissertations for the EdD program in educational leadership. In addition, this position will include providing academic advising to students, serving as a second or third member on dissertation committees, participation in departmental meetings and service to the department, School of Education or Mills College.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: An earned PhD or EdD in education. Teaching experience at the graduate level and experience supporting doctoral candidates through all aspects of their dissertation including participation in qualifying exam hearings, dissertation proposal hearings, feedback on the dissertation introduction chapter, conceptual frameworks, literature reviews, research methodologies-particularly qualitative research, data collection and analysis, drawing research findings and research-based recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications: Scholarship expertise in two or more of the following areas: critical pedagogy, critical race theory, feminist theory, queer theory, Black critical theory, critical Indigenous epsitemologies, Latinx critical theory, Asian critical theory, critical disability theory, critical youth studies or qualitative research methodologies.

Compensation: Salary is $65,000 per year.


Additional Information:

This is an exempt, full-time salaried adjunct position. The compensation includes state-mandated benefits including Social Security, State Disability Insurance, Workers' Compensation Insurance, Unemployment Insurance and Sick Day accrual. Employees also receive free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts.
