This is an exciting time to join the new Center or Emerging Infectious Diseases Response. The center’s purpose is to marry technical expertise in emerging infectious diseases—like COVID-19, Zika, and Ebola—with policy research and to provide recommendations to governments, communities, and academic institutions to help them prepare, and respond to, epidemics and pandemics at local, national, and global levels. The CEID seeks a creative, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join the team as Communications and Outreach Associate.

This position will be critical to the launch of the Center, working under the leadership of Nahid Bhadelia , the Director for the Center. The Communications and Outreach Associate is expected to adeptly communicate with stakeholders at all levels to effectively represent the Center. A successful candidate in this role will have outstanding writing and communication skills, be proactive, have excellent organizational skills with particular ability to prioritize work in a complex environment. Demonstrated project management, ability to work independently with minimal supervision and have strong interpersonal skills are critical core requirements.

Main duties are as follows:

  • Communications Strategy: This includes working with the Director to develop goals, strategies, tactics, and messaging for programming and initiatives to audiences both within the University and beyond on all appropriate platforms, including web, social media, and print.
  • Events & Outreach: Responsible for coordinating events, such as conferences, workshops, community events, and presentations both on campus and internationally.
  • Communications Implementation: Responsible for producing and posting content to the website, social media, and other communications platforms, including working with Director to author key website publications.
  • Administrative support to Center Director: Manages the Director’s calendar and assists in meeting coordination. Creates agendas for meetings, takes minutes, and prepares final minutes for distribution.
Required Skills

Bachelor's Degree required. 3-5 years experience. Must know MS Office Suite, social media sites like Twitter & Facebook, Wordpress, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, HTML.
