Job Title:Postdoctoral FellowJob Summary:
Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the Wang research group in the Department of Microbiology to conduct research on cyanobacterial physiology, photosynthesis, and synthetic biology. The Wang research group is interested in bridging basic microbial metabolism with synthetic biology applications. We employ systems biology tools to dissect cell metabolism and provide key insights for engineering purposes. For more information about the research, please refer to http://www.wangxlab.com.
• Investigate how glycogen metabolism helps stabilize and optimize photosynthesis under fluctuating light conditions in cyanobacteria. The ultimate goal is to understand photosynthesis optimization strategy and design synthetic metabolic pathways for improved photosynthesis performance in cyanobacteria and/or plants.
• Apply proteomics, metabolomics, metabolic flux analysis, spectroscopy, biochemical assays, and various genetic tools to dissect cyanobacterial metabolism and design synthetic pathways.
• Develop individual research ideas and projects in addition to fulfilling the aforementioned duties.
• This position will be funded for 3 years but subject to renewal based on satisfactory performance in the first year.
Doctoral degree in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, biophysics, bioengineering, or closely related areas by the start date of the appointment. The candidate must be able to design experiments and analyze complex datasets. This position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.
Consideration may be given to candidates who are independent thinkers and workers capable of taking projects from idea to reality, while working as a team player and serving as a mentor to graduate and undergraduate students; Strong background in cyanobacterial physiology/genetics, photosynthesis, and synthetic and systems biology; Previous experience in computation modeling, metabolic flux analysis, and other omics skills. Successful candidates will be Evidence of exceptional organizational capability, strong oral and written communication skills, and previous grantsmanship experience are highly appreciated.
