Lead Custodian, Dining Services Job Number Full/Part Time Schedule Salary 23393038 Full Time Varies $37,208 - $51,031 Position Information UC Riverside's Housing, Dining, and Hospitality Services is currently recruiting for a Lead Custodian. Housing, Dining, and Hospitality Services supports the global campus community by nourishing and delighting our student guests, faculty and staff with outstanding cuisine, cutting-edge menus and delivering exceptional customer service. The selected candidate will work daily with a team of committed professionals focused on "above the line" accountability and results! We are looking for accomplished professionals interested in continuing our cultivation of the latest trends in collegiate retail and residential services, promoting and shaping sound sustainable business practices. This is a critical position as we look to re-build and re-open all of our dining locations following the pandemic.The Lead Custodian leads, guides, and performs a variety of custodial/housekeeping tasks and performs routine and emergency cleaning and general maintenance of all UCR Housing, Dining, and Hospitality Services, including Housing, Dining, and Early Childhood Services facilities. The Lead Custodian oversees critical day-to-day operations in a supervisor's absence and acts as a subject matter expert and provides leadership to custodial/housekeeping staff. The scope of work will include cleaning windows, mirrors, floors, walls, ceilings, furniture, carpets, appliances, drinking fountains, and related fixtures. Areas cleaned include kitchen areas, dining rooms, offices, resident rooms, classrooms, bathrooms, and showers. Cleaning Lounges and apartments including stoves, ovens and refrigerators. Cleaning and sanitizing food production areas, kitchen equipment, counters, exhaust filters and hoods. Preparation of rooms for summer conference groups and special events by cleaning rooms, moving furniture, making up beds with linens and towel exchanges. Performing ‘set-up’ duties and restoring area per contract for catered conference groups and special events. Cleaning and sanitizing the early childhood services facilities to State mandated standards. All will be accomplished by sweeping, dusting, stripping, waxing, moping, polishing, disinfecting, sanitizing, vacuuming, buffing using various equipment to strip, wax, polish, as well as cleaning and removing graffiti to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of buildings. Clean and replenish restrooms. Move and empty refuse/recycling containers and dumpsters throughout campus facilities, conference rooms, elevators, stairwells, exteriors, etc. Clean up biohazards such as blood, vomit, rodent droppings, dead animals and raw sewage. Clean-up construction debris from new construction and major refurbishment/remodeling projects. Maintain exteriors by sweeping and/or "blowing down" sidewalks, stairs, or cleaning with high-pressure washers and riding sidewalk scrubbers. Assist with pool maintenance, cleaning and adding water/chemicals as needed. May work independently or as part of a team in assigned work areas. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students. We anticipate this position to be filled in late summer or early fall. Experience Experience Requirement Minimum of 2 years of experience in custodial/housekeeping operations with an emphasis in floor care; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Required Experience in safe use of a wide variety of equipment and machinery common to custodial services including, but not limited to; stripping/buffing machines, vacuums, steam pressure washers, wet/dry shop vacuums, carpet extractors (bonnet, dry, hydro extraction) cleaning machines, riding flooring cleaning machines, squeegees, brushes, etc. Required Demonstrated experience performing custodial work in dining and kitchen facilities in compliance with health codes and procedures and knowledge of and experience in the prevention of food contamination in kitchen and dining facilities. Required Proven experience in safe use of cleaning chemicals, their interactions, danger signs and disposal methods. Required Experience in proper procedures for cleaning and maintaining a variety of floor surfaces including, but not limited to resilient tile floors, carpeted floors and terrazzo floors. Required 1 year of experience leading or supervising custodial/housekeeping staff and operations. Preferred Experience and ability to prioritizing work orders, routine work, emergency requests, combined with the knowledge to choose the proper materials and equipment to accomplish the work in the most expeditious and safe manner. Preferred Experience working with a diverse student, staff, faculty and visitor population and ability to provide exemplary customer service. Special Conditions Special Condition Requirement Shift Work (hours outside standard Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM work hours) Required Hired candidate must successfully pass a background check through the DOJ and FBI prior to appointment start date. Minimum Requirements Injury Illness Prevention Program Guidelines: Work in a safe and responsible manner while not putting self or others at risk. Comply with applicable policies and procedures and regulations, using personal safety gear, observing warning signs, learning about potential hazards, and reporting unsafe conditions. Must be able to exert well-paced mobility of up to four hours in length and stand continuously throughout an eight hour shift on uncarpeted surfaces. Must be able to move 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally following proper safety guidelines. Must be able to stand, walk, climb, stoop, push, pull, reach, and crouch for extended periods of time, as required to complete job assignments. Ability to work in temperature extremes, continuous noise, and physical risks found in food service environments.
Ability to work effectively; following through on assignments with minimal direction and fluctuating workload.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to train and direct student assistants in the performance of custodial duties.
Ability to read and understand written or verbal instructions in English and reply both verbally and in writing.
Knowledge, skill and ability to safely use of cleaning chemicals and understand their interactions, danger signs and disposal methods.
Ability to work a flexible schedule (weekends and holidays; early mornings, mornings, evening or graveyard shifts), as needed to accommodate campus event schedules.
Knowledge, skill and ability to apply and practice proper procedures for cleaning and maintaining a variety of floor surfaces including, but not limited to resilient tile floors, carpeted floors and terrazzo floors.
Knowledge and ability to use desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and other electronic devices for tasks including but not limited to checking email and using Outlook calendars.
Ability to read and understand the proper use of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
Ability to perform heavy/physically demanding tasks which require pushing, pulling, walking, standing, reaching, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, stretching, reaching above shoulder level and lifting up to 75 pounds.
Ability to safely remove and replace heavy linen carts, refuse/recycling dumpsters from a loading dock routinely using a manual or mechanical cart/equipment.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of multi-purpose room set-ups, including but not limited to, classroom, theater and banquet style seating.

Knowledge and skill to use MS Office programs and email.

Knowledge of UCR/UC policies, procedures and systems.

Basic knowledge in safe and proper procedures when hazardous materials are suspected; knowledge of safe and proper methods to clean up and dispose of biohazards and chemicals such as rodent droppings, vomit, blood, raw sewage or chemicals.

Knowledge of chemicals used in cleaning restaurants and their proper usage and storage.

Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations governing areas related to the responsibilities of the job, including SB-198 Illness and Injury Prevention Program (IIPP).
