Description
University Counsel has a dual report to the Board of Regents and the President of the University and includes several legal functions that provide an array of services to the University of Colorado system. The Office of the University Counsel provides legal advice to the Board of Regents, the president, system administration and the campuses.

Position Summary
The Litigation IT Systems Administrator is a member of and the key technical resource for University of Colorado (CU) Office of University Counsel. In conjunction with the Manager of Litigation Support and Operations, this position is responsible for the implementation, administration, and maintenance of the technology platforms that support the business and legal processes of the Office. This position must be proficient in the areas of electronic discovery reference model (EDRM), E-Discovery software applications, and Office 365 (including their E-Discovery module).  Priorities for day to day work and ongoing projects are set by University Counsel and carried out in conjunction with the Office of Information Security (OIS), University Information Services (UIS), and CU’s campus information technology (IT) Security Principals.  The incumbent in this position must exercise a high degree of independence and autonomy. This position will also be responsible for coordinating cross-campus E-Discovery platforms, processes, and responses as well as consulting with our legal teams for case and matter management expertise. 

This position reports to the Manager of Litigation Support and Operations and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff System. 

Duties
Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert for e-discovery and Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) related issues which shall include the following:
    • Perform or facilitate the data collection from CU campuses, as required as part of a legal hold process.
    • Develop and maintain policies and procedures, as well as security standards with the Office of Information Security and IT Security Principals on each campus regarding the placement and export of a legal hold data to maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times.
    • Prepare and transfer data to the approved eDiscovery vendor when required.
    • Troubleshoot any technical problems during the collection or transfer of legal hold data.
    • Work closely with the assigned paralegal and attorney for each case to determine the best manner in which the data should be presented for review.
    • Process data inside eDiscovery Review application and generate productions.
    • Facilitate the destruction of all sensitive data from the secure server as required.
  • Serve as the primary technical expert for software administration including:
    • Work internally to schedule software upgrades.
    • Test and de-bug upgrades before moving into production.
    • Install desktop plug-ins for end-users.
    • Troubleshoot basic software errors and problems for legal staff.
    • Escalate software errors and problems to Customer Support or the UIS Business Applications Manager as appropriate.  
  • Provide technical expertise in recommending and implementing both eDiscovery and legal support related software and hardware solutions.
  • Provide technical assistance to legal staff for meetings, hearings, depositions, and trial.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for projects and administration tasks.
  • In conjunction with the Manager of Litigation Support and Operations, provide rovide and facilitate training for IT Security and Legal staff in areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinate with cross-campus IT personnel on technical e-discovery matters
  • Consult with our legal team on case matter management

What we offer:

Salary: The hiring range has been established at $75,000 - $88,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or equivalent professional experience (professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis)
  • Five (5) years’ experience performing software administration duties, which includes
    • eDiscovery review software
    • Crafting, validating, and running Boolean searches
    • Providing technical support
    • Developing and maintaining standards
    • Testing and debugging upgrades
    • Collecting and exporting data
    • Processing and transferring data
    • Executing document productions
Preferred Qualifications

  • Seven (7) years’ experience performing software administration and support duties, as indicated above
  • One (1) year of experience in a team lead or supervisory role, which may include assigning and reviewing the work of others, providing guidance to internal and external team members, and/or assisting management with developing policies and procedures (this requirement may be substituted by formal leadership training)
  • Experience in Higher Education
  • Experience with legal or litigation support
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Enterprise software programming and queries

    • Relativity eDiscovery review software
