JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Student Activities (DSA) at the University of Connecticut announce the opening of a full-time Alternative Breaks & Immersion Programs Coordinator. This position plans, coordinates, and executes the Department’s Community Outreach programs and services related to the Alternative Breaks and Immersion Programs including the recruitment, training, supervision, and advisement of the student leaders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Activities/Director of Community Outreach, this position will provide administrative and programmatic support including but not limited to: coordinating and supporting student leader efforts regarding all aspects of trips for the Alternative Breaks and Immersion Programs, including but not limited to logistics/transportation planning, risk management, student recruitment, student selection and community site staff communication; hiring, training, supervising, and assisting student leaders involved in the Alternative Breaks and Immersion Programs in accordance with university policies and procedures, and state statutes; identifying goals and resources necessary to promote the effectiveness of the Alternative Breaks and Immersion Programs; managing the budget and financial expenditures for alternative breaks and immersion programs; providing support or advice to student organizations related to alternative break trips as needed; overseeing the identification of, communication with, and preparation of all learning partners; participating as a Learning Partner in a least one trip per year; representing Community Outreach at different events, committees or initiatives; maintaining regular contact with student leaders and community partners to resolve problems, assess interests, respond to needs, and anticipate programming/leadership process; supporting and participating in programs, services, and initiatives focusing on social justice and the fostering of a campus community that is more diverse, equitable, and inclusive to all; assisting in the collection and analysis of program evaluation/assessment data and the proposal of program/service improvement recommendations; assist and/or be responsible for one or more aspect(s) of an assigned special projects, programs or services, which may be on-going or short-term; performing related duties as required;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree AND four years of student-centered programming experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Demonstrated ability to communicate information effectively.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management.
  4. Articulated commitment to, demonstrated understanding of, and/or experience working with diverse populations.
  5. Stated willingness to work irregular and flexible hours.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Public Health, Social Work or another related field
  2. Demonstrated experience planning and executing community service programs
  3. Demonstrated experience integrating principles of diversity and inclusion into all aspects of program management.
  4. Experience advising and/or supervising college students.
  5. Experience managing volunteers.
  6. Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary for building professional relationships with community and campus partners.
  7. Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve issues related to coordination and supervision of community services.
  8. Familiarity with relevant state and local policies, procedures, regulations, and laws pertaining to the coordination of service programs.
APPOINTMENT TERMS

Full-time, 35-hours per week. The anticipated salary for this position is $52,096 with excellent benefits.
