The bilingual Early Childhood Community Support Specialist will provide coaching, facilitation of professional learning communities (PLC) and training support to MA EEC licensed early childhood, family child care and out of school time programs, in the four counties of Western MA. The Early Childhood Community Support Specialist will work closely with the StrongStart TTA Grant Administrator to plan, coordinate and implement services for programs engaged in or who have expressed interested in improving the quality of their programs. Supports include facilitation of training, assessment of program/individual educator needs, and using multiple strategies to support attainment of quality enhancement goals. This person works collaboratively with the SSTTA Lead Coach to identify programs to receive coaching services, create work plans, and report on programs progress. Some nights, weekends, and some holidays as required to provide grant activities.

  • Assist with implementation of Strong Start TTA grant program.
  • Assist SSTTA Grant Administrator in the planning, coordination and implementation training activities.
  • Report on training attendance in the statewide database.
  • Assist in development if the service delivery plan.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring services including but not limited to: tasks associated with upward movement on QRIS, administrative support to directors, support to family child care provider, assist with development and/or implementation of Continuous Quality Improvement Plan, support to educators, and other tasks as necessary.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance services including; on-site support, virtual, email and phone as appropriate.
  • Serve as liaison between early childhood community, SSTTA grant staff and college.
  • Completion of coaching related forms and documents including but not limited to action plans coaching logs, observation notes, and reports.
  • Facilitate Professional Learning Community (PLC), Coffee Chats, and meetings to meet the needs of program focused coaching plans.
  • Compile appropriate program and educator data for reporting purposes.
  • Write and submit reports to SSTTA Grant Administrator as needed for grant compliance.
  • Travel to program sites throughout Western MA.
  • Make referrals to EEC Career Pathways Program Coordinator for students who are interested in college programs.
  • Facilitate and participate in community stakeholder meetings.
  • Generate and disseminate outreach materials including flyers, electronic newsletter and other items as needed.
  • Participate in college-wide meetings and events as appropriate.
  • Participate in trainings and meetings identified by SSTTA lead agent, college, Director of Early Childhood Grant Initiatives, or SSTTA Lead Coach as necessary.
  • Represent grant team at local and statewide meetings as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish;
  • Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited institution of higher education in early childhood education or a related field;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in EEC mixed-delivery system or related field;
  • Ability to interact with early childhood education, family child care, and out of school time educators, and the college;
  • Ability to write clearly and compose concise, coherent reports;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders;
  • Willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends;
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse abilities and academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural composition of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • PREFERRED:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in early childhood education or related field;
  • Experience working in or running a family child care program;
  • Participation in EEC sponsored Coaching training;
  • Experience presenting trainings to early childhood educators;
  • Experience with CLASS, Environmental Rating Scales, Pyramid Model and Program Administration Scale, Business Administration Scale.

    Non-Unit Professional Position

    Hours: 37.5 hrs. – 12 month position

    Funding Source: Strong Start Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Grant, three year renewable grant
