Are you interested in a career in higher education academic administration? The Office of the Dean of the Faculty is seeking a qualified and motivated individual for a one-year position as an Academic Administration Fellow. The successful candidate for this position will work closely with the Deans and Directors in the Office, as well as the Chairs and Directors of academic units, to support the effectiveness and well-being of faculty and academic professionals at Princeton, while gaining exposure to the organization, operations, and policies of academic administration.


As a member of the leadership team, this position will be involved in a variety of operational, research and project activities in the Office of the Dean of the Faculty:


Academic affairs for faculty, researchers, postdocs and other academic professionals, including:

  • recruitment and hiring
  • compensation, development and advancement
  • leave requests, extensions of terms and workload relief processes
  • conflict of interest and complaint investigations
  • faculty diversity initiatives

Faculty and academic professional governance activities, including:

  • preparing information and materials for the Board of Trustees and Faculty Advisory Committee on Appointments and Advancements
  • managing endowed professorships and preceptorships, awards and fellowships
  • revisions to Rules and Procedures of the Faculty and material for the Faculty Advisory Committee on Policy

Dean of the Faculty financial management and reporting activities, including:

  • financial planning, forecasting and budget management
  • salary planning and administration
  • higher education survey responses
  • Doctoral degree
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion at all times, and to maintain strict confidentiality in all areas
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and integrity
  • Ability to relate to and communicate with all levels of management
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
  • Effectiveness in working with diverse individuals in a team-oriented environment
  • Proficiency with using business software such as MS Office or Google Apps
