Description:

Postdoctoral Research Position in the MagLab High B/T Facility

Area: Experimental Condensed Matter – low temperatures and high magnetic fields

The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL or MagLab) High B/T Facility in the Department of Physics at the University of Florida invites applications for a postdoctoral associate with experimental low temperature and high magnetic field experience.  Expectations include a willingness to learn new techniques and concepts and an ability to contribute intellectually to the research.  Primary duties include operating dilution refrigerators for precooling demagnetization stages providing sample temperatures down to 1 mK in magnetic fields up to 15 T, which are the environments where user research of novel quantum states and materials is performed in an electromagnetically quiet environment.  Excellent communication skills are required for disseminating the results within the team-user network and during live or virtual discussions, and subsequently in potential publications.  The position, which will be supervised by Mark Meisel and co-supervised by Lucia Steinke, is potentially renewable for continuation within the UF policies governing postdoctoral appointments and contingent on the continuation of grant funding.  We encourage applications from candidates that contribute to the diversity of our programs, the MagLab, and the University of Florida.

Qualifications:

The position requires a PhD degree at the time of appointment, which can be on or after June 1, 2021, but preferably before July 31, 2021. Experience with operating dilution refrigerators and superconducting magnets for performing experimental research.

Application Instructions:

For full consideration, applications must be submitted online at http://apply.interfolio.com/87662 and must include: (1) a cover letter, (2) a curriculum vitae with publication list, (3) a research statement of past and present activities, and (4) three confidential letters of recommendation sent on their behalf to their Interfolio submission packet. Complete applications will be reviewed beginning June 1, 2021, and the position will remain open until filled. Only complete applications will be reviewed.

All candidates for employment are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks, and verification of education.

Final candidate will be required to provide official transcript to the hiring department upon hire.  A transcript will not be considered “official” if a designation of “Issued to Student” is visible.  Degrees earned from an education institution outside of the United States are required to be evaluated by a professional credentialing service provider approved by National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), which can be found at http://www.naces.org/.
