The Department of Africana Studies at the University of Pittsburgh seeks applicants for a one-year Visiting Lecturer position with a focus on the African Diaspora. We seek candidates with a breadth of experience and/or knowledge about the African Diaspora, whether in the United States, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, or other locations. The scholar for this position will also examine anti-Black and systemic racism in their research and/or teaching and incorporate social justice perspectives. A PhD in Africana Studies is preferred, but we also welcome applications from across the range of humanities and social science disciplines. Applicants should have their PhD in hand or expected by August 1, 2021. Responsibilities will include the teaching of Introduction of Africana Studies, History of the African Diaspora, Black Consciousness, other courses in the existing curriculum, and possibly courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. The expected teaching load for this position is three courses per semester. The position start date is September 1, 2021. Salary and benefits are competitive.

Minimum qualifications:

• PhD in Africana Studies or a humanities/social science discipline

• Demonstrated research skills

• Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level Preparation to teach the following courses: Introduction to Africana Studies, History of the African Diaspora, and Black Consciousness Preferred qualifications:

• Previous experience teaching courses related to the African Diaspora

• Publications related to the African Diaspora
