Position Overview:

The Title IX Coordinator/Director of Student Conduct is responsible for administering and coordinating the University’s policies, procedures, programs, and training related to the University’s obligations under Title IX, the Clery Act and the Violence Against Women Act and maintaining compliance with such federal laws including regulations implementing such laws. The Title IX Coordinator/Director of Student Conduct oversees the University’s Title IX grievance process in instances of allegations of gender-based discrimination and harassment, including sexual misconduct.

The Title IX Coordinator/Director of Student Conduct is also responsible for the administration of the University's student conduct program, including maintenance, updating and revision of the University Code of Student Conduct. The Director is also responsible for providing training to staff who administer the policies and procedures of the conduct system in Residence Life and other areas. The Director offers alternative forms of dispute resolution, when appropriate. The Director assists in coordinating the University's response to emergency situations involving students and assures compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The Director compiles and analyzes statistics to monitor effectiveness of programs and address issues. The Director conducts and leads others in student-involved investigations. The Director educates and trains University community on harassment/discrimination issues.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversees administration, leadership, and management of the University’s Title IX policy and the Office of Student Conduct, including supervision of professional staff and student interns.
  • Oversees and engages in investigations of individual student and student organization conduct cases, including academic misconduct and allegations of discrimination and/or harassment.
  • Adjudicates student conduct matters subject to informal resolution processes in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct.
  • Serves as the primary representative for the Office of Student Conduct for the University's Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT).
  • Leads the Felony Admissions application committee process.
  • Reviews and updates online harassment /discrimination courses for students.
  • Works with Enrollment Management to ensure compliance with online harassment/discrimination courses for students.
  • Responsible for the annual review of the Code of Student Conduct including any changes, edits, revisions and required updates that need to be made.
  • Recommends appropriate policies and policy revisions to respond to new legislation and regulations, state policy requirements, and best business practices related to student conduct and Title IX.
  • Gathers and analyzes statistics to identify systemic issues that could lead to problems and makes recommendations on addressing issues identified.
  • Provides and/or coordinates appropriate levels of training for Investigators and is responsible for overseeing the quality of all related investigations.
  • Provides and/or coordinates required awareness and educational (prevention) programs.
  • Oversees management and maintenance of Maxient database.
  • Compiles statistics for, and authors, federal compliance reports.
  • Provides campus training and orientation programs about student conduct resolution services to new faculty, new students, and others.
  • Trains and oversees the university-wide Committee on Student Conduct and Sexual Misconduct Panel.
  • Prepares and monitors departmental budget.
  • Serves on divisional and institutional committees as assigned.
  • Reports high profile cases to the Vice President for Student Affairs.
  • Acts as liaison with various on-campus constituencies to include faculty, Housing and Campus Police, as well as off-campus stakeholders to include law enforcement, City and District Attorney's office.
  • Occasional night and/or weekend work as required to meet objectives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications Experience Required:

    Bachelor's degree in student personnel administration, higher education administration, or a related field. 7+ years of experience required and at least 3 of those years directly related professional experience with Title IX, FERPA, VAWA and the Clery Act, student affairs experience and must include knowledge of student development theory and student conduct processes, and applicable laws such as the Clery Act, Title IX, and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

    Evidence of an effective leadership style, experience in residence life and in student conduct, and a background demonstrating success in dealing with students, parents, administrators, and faculty.

    Experience Preferred:

    5 years’ experience in university Student Conduct & Title IX investigation.

    Master's degree in student personnel administration, higher education administration, or a related field.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    Demonstrated initiative and leadership in prior career responsibilities. Well-developed counseling skills. Ability to work in an environment that involves conflict management, mediation skills, variable hours and occasional weekend activities. Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to crisis situations.

    Excellent organizational, management, budgetary, and leadership skills are required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

    Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others are required. Computer literacy and database experience are required.

    The ability to manage and complete tasks in a timely manner and the ability to maintain accurate records and files is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
