Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The mission of the Campus Violence Response Center (CVRC) with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is to create a safe, single point of access for any UNCG community member impacted by sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, sexual or gender-based harassment, and all other forms of campus violence. We provide affirming, empowering, and confidential services to UNCG community members who have been victimized. Services include crisis response, advocacy, counseling, and coordination with on and off-campus services.

The LGBTQ Services Specialist’s role is to develop and implement programs to identify LGBTQ victims and survivors in the campus community and provide services that meet the needs of the LGBT communities on our campus. In collaboration with other allied partners and University departments, the Specialist will provide training and technical assistance to increase campus partners’ capacity to respond appropriately and serve LGBTQ identified individuals who experience domestic violence. Additionally, the specialist will offer comprehensive victim-centered direct services such as advocacy, support group, crisis counseling, crisis support, resource information, and service coordination to victims and survivors of violence, emphasizing LGBTQ victims and survivors’ needs.

This role will help the university achieve its goal of providing an open, diverse, and inclusive learning and working environment through direct service delivery, outreach, and education. The Specialist will report to the Associate Director of the Campus Violence Response Center.

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters degree and one year of experience providing support to, or working with, students/individuals who identify as LGBTQ; or a Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant experience combined with professional training; demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and respond to situations with tact, sensitivity, and flexibility; and an ability to act independently and balance advocacy for multiple clients, responding to crisis and walk-in traffic, develop and deliver programs for students, faculty, and staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two – four years of directly related experience.

Experience coordinating student-related activities and programs;

Experience working with crime victims.

Training & Technical Assistance

Essential Tasks:

Conduct training to increase the capacity of other campus domestic violence service providers to respond to LGBTQ clients; Respond to technical assistance requests about serving LGBTQ clients from campus partners, faculty, or staff seeking to improve their ability to serve LGBTQ individuals; Research, develop, and update materials and systems to ensure that LGBTQ clients receive culturally competent and legally compliant responses, referrals, and information; Work with staff to provide updates and reports on the status of the NC LGBTQ Domestic Violence Response Initiative; Attend relevant LGBTQ taskforce meetings hosted by NC LGBTQ Domestic Violence Response Initiative.

In collaboration with the Outreach Coordinator, design and deliver training and other educational opportunities to campus constituencies regarding interpersonal violence in the LGBTQ community; Conduct outreach to the LGBTQ community to increase awareness about services and volunteer opportunities.
