The University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry has just welcomed their new Department Chair, C. Neill Epperson, MD and is in the process of growing the Department of Psychiatry with new programs and expanding existing programs.

Nature of Work

The geriatric psychiatrist will provide direct patient care in the UCHealth geriatric psychiatry specialty clinic. The psychiatrist is responsible for collaborating with other members of the geriatric psychiatry team, the members of the general adult psychiatry team, the neuromodulation team, with geriatric medicine, and other departments and clinic throughout the system.  The psychiatrist will also oversee residents and medical students rotating through the clinic and be involved with didactics.  The geriatric psychiatrist will be a part of the regular Department of Psychiatry call schedule. 

This position involves evaluating and treating psychiatric conditions in older adults, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, and neurocognitive disorders. 

Please note, this is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below.

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Completing diagnostic assessments and initiating evidence-based treatments.
  • Understanding contributing medical conditions and providing input on their treatment when appropriate.
  • Liaising with primary care providers and other medical/surgical specialists.
  • Providing psychoeducation and collaborating with families and caregivers who are also involved in the patient’s care.
  • Upon stabilization, returning their care to their primary care providers. 
  • Actively Contributes to Academic Advancement of his/her discipline.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest developments in field, both academically and through applied skills.
Salary Offered or Salary Range 

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at: 

MD and/or DO 

Instructor: $200,000 to $215,000.  

Senior Instructor: $200,000 to $215,000.  

Assistant Professor: $200,000 to $215,000.  

Associate Professor: $220,000 to $245,000.  

Professor: $250,000 to $300,000. 

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications  

Instructor: 1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: MD and/or DO, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License.  Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.

Senior Instructor: 1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: MD and/or DO, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License.  Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.

Assistant Professor: 1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: MD and/or DO, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License.  Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.

Associate Professor: 4-7 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: MD and/or DO, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License.  Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.

Professor: 7+ years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: MD and/or DO, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License.  Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.

Preferred Qualifications

Successfully complete a fellowship training program specializing in geriatric populations.
