The Department of Counseling, Health and Kinesiology at Texas A&M University- San Antonio invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Counselor Education to begin Fall 2022. Applicants must be certified in School Counseling and have a minimum of two years of experience as a professional school counselor. The School Counseling program is seeking CACREP-accreditation and emphasizes culturally-responsive and evidence-based practice and the preparation of practitioners for a wide variety of school settings.
The position requires teaching graduate classes in the counseling program, supervising practicum students, maintaining an active research agenda, scholarly publication and presentation, collaborating with community partners, advising and mentoring of students, and participating in national professional organizations and university and college committees.
Required Education and Experience:
Earned doctorate in counselor education, from a CACREP-accredited program or related degree if employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year prior to July 1, 2013
18 graduate hours in each field in which candidate will teach
Eligible for certification as a school counselor in Texas
A minimum of two years of experience as a Professional School Counselor in a public school setting
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Evidence of commitment to the professional field of school counseling and counselor education, demonstrated by membership in state, regional, and/or national counseling associations
Evidence of scholarly potential/productivity
Experience working with culturally diverse populations
Preferred Experience
Working knowledge of Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs and ASCA National Model
Teaching experience in minority or Hispanic-serving institutions of higher education including advising and supervising graduate students
Active certification as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), or Professional School Counselor (PSC)
Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications. The position is a nine-month tenure-track appointment with the possibility of summer teaching. The anticipated date of appointment is August 17, 2022. The University offers an excellent benefits package including healthcare and retirement.
