Description:

The Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida is recruiting a full-time tenure or non-tenure track acute care surgeon to join the Division of Acute Care Surgery. We currently have 12 full-time surgeons and follow a shared service model, covering acute care surgery, adult trauma care, surgical critical care and burn. Our Level I trauma center provides care to over 3,000 trauma admissions/year, including 17% penetrating trauma volume. Our operative volume for trauma and acute care surgery is over 2,000 cases/year.

This new physician will join a group of Acute Care surgeons with a reputation of excellence in patient care and an established track record of federal and industry funded research in trauma and sepsis. The successful candidate will conduct funded research focused on translational and/or interventional clinical trials in critically ill trauma/sepsis patients. This position requires oversight of the clinical research mission. They will supervise the research team staff members and focus on multidisciplinary and multicenter studies. Experience working with IRB and knowledge of good research practices and policies for clinical research, as well as experience in medical informatics, data visualization and working with large datasets is required, and evidence of prior research experience is strongly preferred. Applicants will be provided dedicated time to pursue academic research interests.  

The Acute Care Surgery Division has a longstanding commitment to both Resident and Fellow education, and houses an accredited fellowship in Surgical Critical Care. This new surgeon will be involved in these efforts. Fellowship training in surgical critical care is required.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:  This position requires an M.D. or equivalent degree; board certification or eligibility in general surgery and surgical critical care

Preferred Qualifications:  Fellowship training in acute care surgery is preferred. Track record of research productivity focused on translational/clinical research. NIH funding a plus.
