Job Description

University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine is looking for an associate or full professor of engineering to join Department of Orthopaedics to facilitate research vision of the department as the Margaret Suzanne Neal Endowed Chair in Orthopaedics. This will be a tenured position, and academic appointments will be given both in School of Medicine-Department of Orthopaedics and School of Computing and Engineering. The hired faculty will work collaboratively in orthopaedics related research projects while engaging with the orthopaedic resident education.

The ideal candidates will have expertise in conducting research, advising students, and developing and teaching courses on the broader areas of experimental biomechanics, finite element analysis, biostatistics, and application of nanotechnology for orthopedic and biomechanical applications. Applicants must have strong record in at least one of the following areas:

    Engineering mechanics for fields of biology and physiology.Mechanical influences on bone and joint health.Mechanics of neuromuscular control and mechanics of growth and form.Design and manufacturing of medical implants and orthotic devices.Emerging nanomaterials and technologies for biomechanical and orthopedic applications.
Minimum Qualifications PhD in any STEM discipline with a research focus in orthopedics and related areas of biomedical applications.

Preferred Qualifications
    BS from an ABET accredited institutionUndergraduate and/or graduate teaching experienceExcellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to enrich and engage in a collegial interdisciplinary environmentSuccessful candidates will be senior faculty with a demonstrated capability to lead a highly impactful and translational research program and provide mentorship to trainees and junior facultyThe candidates are expected to have an internationally recognized track record of discovery and research development, and be eligible for appointment as a full or associate professor with tenure to continue their leadership in innovation in the biomedical engineering fields, specifically in orthopedics and biomechanics.A background in experimental biomechanics, finite element analysis and nanotechnology is preferable to integrate the new faculty into ongoing and future projects. Knowledge of statistics would be a welcome addition.
