Job Description The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine, seeks an outstanding candidate for a full-time Instructor to teach in the medical program for an additional location in St. Joseph, Missouri. The position will primarily support instructional needs in the preclinical medical coursework. The instructor will work closely with and assist course directors and faculty at UMKC School of Medicine to coordinate and deliver course content to students located in St. Joseph. The instructor will provide instruction and assistance in laboratories, small group experiences, team based learning, examinations, and other instructional needs. In particular, it is highly desirable that the instructor have expertise in anatomy and histology in order to assist with laboratory experiences in these areas. Some of the courses that the position may be involved in include human structure function, medical neuroscience, clinical correlations, pathology, microbiology, and pharmacology. The instructor is expected to work collaboratively with faculty and contribute to the School of Medicine mission to provide outstanding educational experiences.

Summary of Responsibilities: Provide instruction in laboratories (particularly anatomy and histology), provide support and supplemental instruction for small group and team based learning activities, help proctor online and in person exams, and provide academic support to students.

Candidates must communicate well with students and faculty, have excellent verbal, written and organizational skills, and work effectively as a team member with other faculty. Candidates must be a US citizen or have permanent residency.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Advanced degree (Master’s, Ph.D., D.O. or M.D.) in anatomy, histology or an appropriate health-related science is required. A teaching post-doctoral fellowship will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience: Preferred qualifications include candidates who have experience in both online and in-class teaching in a medically-oriented program, including experience in dissection-base human gross anatomy labs and histology. Experience teaching physiology, biochemistry, neuroscience, microbiology, pathology, or pharmacology is preferred but not required.

Salary Salary is commensurate with education and experience. This position includes a comprehensive benefit package. Anticipated starting date: fall, 2020.
