Job Details

The Texas Behavioral Science and Policy Institute (TxBSPI) is recruiting for post-baccalaureate research fellows to assist with research projects and receive training in preparation to apply for doctoral programs in the social sciences. Our aim is to build skills in research and theory among students from underrepresented groups in doctoral programs, including but not limited to underrepresented minorities, first-generation college students, community college transfers, and individuals with disabilities.

Our team uses insights from behavioral sciences to design, administer, and evaluate programs that narrow inequalities in education during adolescence and early adulthood. The fellow will primarily work on the Texas Mindset Initiative, a collaboration with the College of Natural Science at UT-Austin and Texas OnRamps to develop and evaluate scalable interventions to improve instructors’ practices and students’ experiences in high school and college.

Fellows will gain hands-on research experience and mentoring in research skills and professional development under the guidance of the principal investigator and postdoctoral fellows. Anticipated responsibilities and opportunities include:

(1) Assisting in the design of new interventions to support more growth oriented classroom environments

(2) Reviewing and summarizing the literature on teachers’ mindsets, student motivation, student engagement, and teachers’ practices

(3) Managing undergraduate research assistants in research tasks

(4) Analyzing responses to instructor interventions from the fall

(5) Attending and actively participating in weekly project meetings, lab meetings, and research presentations

(6) Receiving structured training in preparation for doctoral programs in social science

The Fellow will receive all of the benefits of a full time University of Texas Employee, including healthcare and retirement. The start date is flexible, preferably by August 2021.

If you have any questions, please contact fellowship coordinator Jamie Carroll (jmcarroll@utexas.edu).
