Hofstra University is a dynamic community of more than 11,000 students from around the world who are dedicated to civic engagement, academic excellence and becoming leaders in their communities and their careers.Description:Reporting to the Director of Public Safety, the Associate Director of Public Safety for Operations helps to ensure the safety of the diverse campus community and its visitors through effective leadership, by fostering and maintaining positive internal and external relationships, and through education and training of the campus community and Public Safety staff. The Associate Director of Public Safety for Operations will also serve as the Director of Public Safety in their absence.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•Manages the day to day patrol operations, including the activities of uniform personnel, plain clothes assignments, Operations Managers and Field Supervisors. Includes the oversight of the assignment and scheduling of Public Safety personnel including overtime needs.
•Plans and directs the security of special events and details such as commencement, athletic events, visits by governmental officials, and various other high-profile events held at Hofstra University.
•Manages and conducts investigations of complaints and incident reports. Coordinates responses to complaints from students and assists students in their interaction with any outside agency such as police, district attorney or other governmental agencies.
•Serves as the liaison with other law enforcement agencies in the areas of crime prevention, training, and campus and community safety programs.
•Assists in the development and administration of department programs, policies, and procedures.
•Assists in the development, implementation and application of innovative safety and security systems and programs.
•Coordinates with Assistant Director of Public Safety, Support Services, in the management of the Security Guard Training Program administered by the Department.
•Liaises with Local 553 representatives and Shop Stewards on issues related to public safety operations.
•Liaises with other campus officials in matters related to campus safety and security.
•Conducts Public Safety presentations as needed for students, faculty, employees, and parents.
•Reviews condition reports such as building reports and vehicle tracking sheets.

This is an onsite position; work for this role is performed on campus.
Qualifications:•Bachelor’s degree required.
•Prior supervisory experience in campus safety, law enforcement or related fields required.
•Prior experience coordinating and interacting with external law enforcement agencies required.
•Proven ability to conduct and oversee investigations.
•Ability to instruct in public safety and security laws and regulations required.
•Ability to work effectively with diverse campus constituencies.
•Strong analytical and organization skills.
•Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with great attention to detail.
•Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
•Demonstrated effective interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
•Possess strong critical thinking, reasoning, and decision-making abilities.
•Ability to work with budgets and scheduling of personnel.
•Detailed oriented and able to exercise good judgment and discretion, and capable of handling sensitive
and confidential issues in a professional manner.
•Possession of a valid driver’s license.
•Ability to work flexible shifts, which may include evenings and weekends and special events depending on the needs of the department and University. Must be able to be on-call and able to respond to campus emergencies.
•Proficient in MSWord, Excel, Outlook and Zoom required.
