Job Title:Health and Social Science Libr; Asst/Assoc LibrJob Summary:

Health and Social Sciences Librarian will have primary responsibility for library subject specialist and liaison services to an assigned range of academic departments and programs, including psychology, sociology and gerontology, speech pathology and audiology, and emerging programs at Miami in the clinical health sciences. The librarian takes part in a team-based approach in the Libraries’ department of Advise & Instruct, to provide research assistance, library teaching, and collection development for the university community. Duties/Physical Demands:

• Serve as library subject specialist and liaison to undergraduate, graduate, and research programs in the academic departments of Psychology, Sociology and Gerontology, Speech Pathology and Audiology, and additional departments and programs as assigned including a new Physician Associate program;
• Establish and maintain positive relationships and awareness with faculty and students in liaison areas;
• Provide specialized information consultation in assigned subject areas and general reference services, supporting the Libraries' physical and online public service points;
• Provide engaged library teaching using multiple modes and technologies (in-person, online, and asynchronous) as warranted to support curricula and research in assigned areas;
• Provide collection development and management in assigned areas;
• The successful candidate will provide excellent and collegial customer service;
• Monitor changing needs and trends in areas of responsibility;
• Exhibit professional flexibility in a dynamic work environment;
• Cooperate with colleagues to support and assist in library services across the university.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program by date of appointment; Teaching skills leading to proficient instruction in information literacy; Strong commitment to high quality public service; Analytical skills to aid in use of library information resources, technology problem solving, and decision-making; Strong written and oral communication skills; Ability to work both independently and in teams, with all levels of staff and diverse library customers; Proactive attitude, initiative, and ability to conceive and carry out projects; Enthusiasm and capability to identify and develop new skills and professional competencies; Ability to meet the Libraries’ promotion and continuing contract requirements (see http://www.lib.miamioh.edu/about/larps.pdf). Appointment as Associate Librarian requires an established record of service and scholarship as described in these requirements.


This position is available to persons who are currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time and indefinite basis. Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates with a prior degree in a health or social sciences discipline; One-year prior experience in health or social sciences librarianship or other work experience in an academic or special library; One-year prior work experience in public-facing or service-oriented work environments; One year teaching experience, especially at the college level; Experience in data management and analysis, digital scholarship, emerging technologies, or scholarly communication issues; Experience conducting systematic reviews.
