About the Department:

As one of the eleven academic departments in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of Sociology & Anthropology (S&A) offers undergraduate and graduate degrees that lead to challenging and rewarding careers in both the public and private sectors. The department is one of the largest of its kind in the United States and one of the largest on the campus as well. The Department also serves the citizens of the state, including business, industry, and government through its research, extension and outreach activities. These activities are as diverse as studies of poverty and inequality, criminology, archaeometry, cardiovascular mortality, child abuse, family issues, biotechnology and food insecurity.

The Department enrolls 525 undergraduate majors and provides 27,000 semester credit hours of undergraduate instruction each academic year. In addition, the Department enrolls 40 Masters students and 70 Ph.D. students.

Essential Job Duties:

  • The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is accepting applications for the Professional Track Faculty position of Lecturer (part-time).
  • The Lecturer is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. Each Lecturer prepares his/her own syllabi for the class(es) he/she teaches.
  • Professional Track Faculty appointments are one-semester or one-year, with possibility of renewal.
  • Successful candidates will teach 1-3 courses in one of the following areas: Sociology, Criminology, or Anthropology (Cultural,
    Archeological or Biological Anthropology).

Applications will be kept on file for one year should openings arise in subsequent semesters.

Other Responsibilities:

  • The Lecturer is responsible for performing duties during the day, evening, or weekend as assigned. A Lecturer performs all other duties as directed by the Department Head.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • A Master’s Degree (or higher) in Sociology or Anthropology (or related field) or will have such degree by start of the semester in which the position begins.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to excellence in teaching is expected.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • No prior teaching experience is necessary, but is desired.
