The Department of Animal Science is the largest academic program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and provides instruction to nearly 900 undergraduate students and over 100 graduate students.
The Department is also a leader in extension and engagement programs to farmers, allied industry and the public, and conducts internationally recognized research into the nutrition, genetics, reproduction, health and management of domesticated animals.Essential Job Duties:
The Department of Animal Science at North Carolina State University is pleased to announce recruitment for a full-time 12-month lecturer position in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) to provide instruction in the Livestock and Poultry Management (LPM) program of the Agricultural Institute (AGI). The AGI is an Associate of Applied Science degree-granting unit within CALS at North Carolina State University. Many faculty in Animal Science, Poultry Science, and other CALS departments are involved in teaching and advising in AGI.
The AGI teaches and trains students in specific, practical skills and prepares them for the workforce and leadership positions. Upon completion of the Livestock and Poultry Management program, AGI students receive an Associate’s in Applied Science (AAS). Across all AGI majors, 95% of graduates are employed in their fields of interest within six months after graduation.
The lecturer will be responsible for the creation, coordination, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom and laboratory instruction and related activities for at least nine credit hours of course work in food animal and poultry processing. The successful candidate will coordinate with NC Food Animal and Poultry Processors to design, develop and teach courses to be offered in AGI providing LPM majors with knowledge, skills, and abilities in food animal and poultry processing. The Lecturer is also expected to serve as an academic liaison with NC processors and provide train-the-trainer experiences to Teachers and Cooperative Extension personnel as a recruiting tool to the program. The lecturer will hold office hours, advise students in the major, and be engaged with the placement of students into processing internships.

This position is expected to enhance the Department and College’s overall teaching program. Collaboration with others across the department and university. In addition, the successful candidate will provide service to the department, college, university and the profession of animal science.Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires master’s degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.
The successful candidate should have a degree in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Food Science, or a closely related field.Other Required Qualifications:
The individual should have a strong interest in teaching, as well as, effective written and oral communication skills.Preferred Qualifications:
Documented work experience in food animal and or poultry processing is preferred. This may include experience in commercial processing facilities, work in further processing of meat and/or poultry products, and experience in HAACP and food safety programs for meat and poultry products.Required License(s) or Certification(s):
Valid NC Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
