The Carbon Electronics Cluster is a part of the NC State University Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program. The Cluster consists of over 20 core faculty members from Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical and Biological Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The research within the cluster is highly collaborative.

The Cluster faculty perform cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and provide international leadership in the field of carbon electronics. Some of the disciplines include chemical synthesis of organic, hybrid electronic materials, synthesis of carbon electronic materials by additive manufacturing, structural characterization using synchrotron radiation, in-situ characterization, photophysical characterization using femtosecond ultrafast spectroscopy, device fabrication including sensors, thin film transistors, photovoltaic cells, light emitting diodes and lasers.

Essential Job Duties:

As part of the Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program, the Carbon Electronics Cluster at North Carolina State University seeks applications/nominations for new faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor (tenure/tenure-track).

The Cluster at North Carolina State University is seeking to hire outstanding individuals in open rank tenured/tenure-track faculty positions in the general area of chemical synthesis, materials characterization, photonics, bioelectronics and sensing device processing. Successful candidates will have achieved or will be on a trajectory for international prominence, and senior candidates will have demonstrated vision and skills to lead collaborative, multidisciplinary research efforts. We are specifically looking for candidates who are highly collaborative with the existing core Cluster faculty.

Other Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a funded, independent research program as well as to collaborate with other researchers at NC State.

The candidate will be expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Minimum Education and Experience:

A Ph.D. in a related field (such as Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.) is required (must have by date of hire), as well as demonstrated ability in teaching and research.

Other Required Qualifications:

Ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the appropriate discipline.

Senior candidates must have clear international standing, an exceptional record of publishing and external funding, and a demonstrated record of scientific excellence and leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

Priority will be given to candidates that have demonstrated interdisciplinary collaborations that cut across academic units.
