Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job:

The Department of Art at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Animation starting Fall 2021.

We are seeking applicants with an MFA in Animation or a related area who can teach beginning courses in 2D and/or 3D Computer Animation. Preference will be given to candidates with strength in 2D animation, who also have experience with Autodesk Maya and the ability to teach 3D animation at the beginning and intermediate level, or candidates with a strength in 3D modeling (Maya and ZBrush) and the rendering pipeline, who can also teach beginning level 2D animation.

Duties include teaching a 3/3 course load.

Educational Requirements for the Position:

Candidates must possess an MFA or terminal degree in a related field and demonstrate outstanding potential in research and/or creative activity.

Experience Required for the Position:

Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is strongly preferred. Industry experience is also an asset.

Other Requirements for the Position:

Preference will be given to candidates with strength in 2D animation, who also have experience with Autodesk Maya and the ability to teach 3D animation at the beginning and intermediate level, or candidates with a strength in 3D modeling (Maya and ZBrush) and the rendering pipeline, who can also teach beginning level 2D animation.

The Department of Art www.shsu.edu/art has about 550 undergraduate majors in Graphic Design, Studio Art, Photography, and Animation. In fall 2021, we will offer an MFA in Art and Social Practice. The BFA in Animation is the largest program in the department with over 200 majors. Ranked by Animation Career Review as one of the top 50 Public Animation Schools and Colleges in the U.S, the SHSU Computer Animation curriculum is built on a foundation of fine art courses, emphasizing creativity and experimentation along with technical ability. The program engages students with current and historic trends in animation, and includes courses in the History of Animation, 2D Animation, 3D Modeling and Animation, 3D Character Animation, Experimental Animation, and Interactive Animation.
