Educational and Experience Requirement:

Bachelors degree in Business or related field with PGA membership required. Prefer PGA and PGM graduate. Minimum of two years professional golf experience. Experience in golf shop operations, head golf professional, budget management, club fitting, and daily golf operations desirable. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

The PGA’s Professional Golf Management Program accredited by The Professional Golfers Association of America is a college degree program designed to attract and educate students to service all aspects of this developing industry. These comprehensive degree programs blend college and university requirements for a golf industry compatible major with a specialty in golf management. The Internship Coordinator will set-up, monitor and maintain the SHSU student internship program with professionals and employees all around the country.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Internship Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of internships, including but not limited to maintaining a list of current contacts for all businesses that meet internship criteria and are interested in hosting a PGM intern; site evaluation for selection of student placements; evaluation of site professionals to ensure assistance in the completion of specific work experience activities for program interns; the monitoring of evaluations of interns by site professionals and of evaluations of working conditions and activities of site by interns during placement; and proper documentation of internship sites, placements, and evaluations. In addition, the internship coordinator will serve as program advisor to the PGM student association, assist in the instruction of the Professional Development Seminar, and will review PGA and PGM Work Experience Kits. The PGA and PGM Internship Coordinator is responsible for monitoring each internship with certain paperwork, including: Internship Agreement Forms, Internship Evaluation Forms, and Post Internship Meeting Forms, and assist in the instruction of seminars that prepare students for the completion of the PGA Educational Program. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Contacts with current and prospective students and parents of students, internship employers, golf industry and PGA representatives. Strong interpersonal and communication skills needed. Computer experience helpful. Working hours may vary as required, including occasional evening and weekend work.
