SUMMARY:

The Department of Literature & Languages is seeking applicants for a temporary 9-month Non-Tenure Track position in English. This position will begin 9/1/2021 and end on 5/31/2022 (Academic Year 2021-2022). Faculty at Texas A & M University-Commerce are required to conduct scholarly activities, work cooperatively with others, and contribute service to their discipline, the university, and the community. The Ad-Interim Instructor of English position will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in composition and literature as needed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant will teach five (5) classes per semester in English composition at the undergraduate and graduate levels as needed, on-campus and online, primarily in English composition and rhetoric; assist with directing Graduate Assistants-Teaching (GATs) and composition adjunct instructors; hold office hours as required, and assist students as appropriate. Applicants must have experience teaching online. Familiarity with the programs and student population at Texas A&M University-Commerce is preferred, especially with the department’s First-Year Writing program. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: A PhD in English is required to teach graduate coursework. A Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 hours in English is required to teach undergraduate courses.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: 18 graduate hours in field/subject area. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals. Good written and oral communication skills. Commitment to high quality teaching. Dedication to high standards and student success.
  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

University level teaching experience, particularly in composition courses. Online teaching experience. Experience or familiarity with the department’s First-Year Writing program.
