SUMMARY:

The Department of Health and Human Performance is seeking faculty for a Tenure Track position in Public Health with responsibilities in support of the undergraduate and graduate Public Health programs. This position will begin Fall 2021.

Individuals must have a doctorate in Public Health, Community Health, Health Promotion, Health Education, Epidemiology, Biostatistics or related field. Preference will be given to individuals who have a Public Health Masters/Terminal degree, have higher education teaching experience, have a strong record of or potential for research, and experience supervising/advising students. Experience obtaining external funding is highly desirable.

The position is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank. Summer teaching is optional but not guaranteed. The position will primarily serve the Public Health Programs but may contribute to other graduate and undergraduate courses in the department of Health and Human Performance. Faculty at Texas A & M University-Commerce are required to conduct scholarly activities, work cooperatively with others, and contribute service to their discipline, the university, and the community.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate, masters or doctoral level courses in the areas of Public Health
  • Provide service to the department, college, university , and community; and
  • Assist with the Academy of Health Potential (a community outreach program)
    • conducting research in the areas of health promotion/ public health;
    • actively seeking funding;
    • providing service to the university and community.
  • develop relationships within the department and university for scholarship in health promotion/public health
  • establish a research/scholarly agenda
  • Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of current trends in learning with research, best practices in teaching, and technological applications in the classroom, including online teaching.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Earned doctorate in Public Health, Community Health, Health Promotion, Health Education, Epidemiology, Biostatistics or related field. Candidates that are ABD will be considered but degree must be conferred on or before January 1st for Spring appointments and on or before August 1st for Fall appointments.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Demonstration of ability to teach in the areas related to public health, community health, and health promotion. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals. Good written and oral communication skills. Commitment to public health and high quality teaching. Dedication to high standards and student success. Scholarly publication record or scholarly potential.
  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • University level teaching experience of Public/Community Health
  • expertise in Epidemiology or Biostatistics
  • Record or potential for research and publication at the national/international level and ability to pursue funded research.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Commitment to diversity and working in multicultural contexts.
  • related certification (CHES, MCHES or CPH).

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

  • Supervision of graduate assistants, practicum students and student interns.
