This full-time 10-month Faculty position is available for the Fall'2021 semester with an anticipated start date in August.
Ten-month faculty are assigned primarily teaching duties of 30 Teacher Load Hours (TLH) during an academic year (approximately 30 credits). This position is responsible to teach courses primarily in College Writing (ENGL-101) and Writing about Literature (ENGL-102). The work expectation for faculty is 37.5 hours per week for professional duties; however, actual hours worked on- and off-campus in any given week can vary according to grading, class preparation requirements, meeting schedules, professional development activities, and office hours. Ten-month faculty responsibilities are primarily to teach students and assess learning and secondarily to engage in professional development and to provide service to the college community. This position reports to the Division Chair, Communication Arts.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Teach the equivalent of 30-teaching load hours during an academic year in English, including but not limited to; College Writing (ENGL-101) and Writing about Literature (ENGL-102).
- Able to teach using different styles as needed, including classroom, online and hybrid instruction.
- Committed to the College mission, fostering inclusive, student-centered experiences in the classroom and beyond.
- Hold classes as scheduled
- Design assignments and/or give required assignments to measure student learning
- Provide clear and concise feedback to students in a timely manner (generally within one week)
- Check and respond to all emails within two business days
- Post syllabi, faculty information, and a welcome announcement for Preview Week; maintain a current grade book in the Learning Management System throughout a semester
- Hold required student hours
- Assist students and direct them to appropriate resources
- Contribute to student retention and completion initiatives
- Participate in outcomes assessment and respond to data
- Collaborate with student support offices and professionals
- Report grades and reconcile incomplete grades as necessary
- Engage in professional development
- Attend required meetings and complete mandatory trainings
- Serve on committees to support the college mission
- Adapt to emerging challenges and demands to serve the college and its students
- Follow policies as outlined in the Faculty Handbook
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Master’s Degree in a related field (Writing, Rhetoric, or English (Ph.D. a bonus)
- Two-years of full-time teaching experience in English at the 100-level or equivalent (or 48 credit hours).
- Ability to use technology in teaching; familiarity with Canvas (or other LMS) as well as TEAMS (or other Synchronous Remote software).
- Must be positive, cooperative, and supportive
- Clear commitment to general education goals
- Experience with writing assessment and outcomes
- Enthusiasm for teaching transitional students (ALP)
- Credentials in online teaching and/or course design
- Record of high retention and student success rates
- Tutoring experience in a college writing center
- Positive student evaluations
- Publications and/or conference presentations
- Credentials for and/or experience in teaching ELL students
- Demonstrated commitment to student engagement (such as advising student clubs, organizing field trips, or integrating campus events into classroom instruction and assignments).
This work requires is normally light work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicate
- Visual Acuity/ability to perceive or detect surroundings
- Mental acuity – Able to focus, concentrate, understand and convey subject matter
- Repetitive motion (i.e. keyboarding)
- Stand/sit/walk – Ability to move or traverse from one area to another
College campus, direct contact with students, staff, faculty and the general public in classrooms, common areas, offices, campus environments and clinical site. Use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations; and observance of traffic laws when/if driving a College vehicle.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR FACULTY APPLICANTS:
The College pays one-half of reasonable travel expenses for the first visit and pays the entire cost of travel for the second visit. The College does not pay relocation expenses or offer tenure. However, following a one-year probationary period, year-to-year contracts are provided until three years of satisfactory service are completed, after which time 3-year contracts are provided.
