Position Description:

The Donnelly Centre in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto invites applications for the position of Limited Term Research Associate to conduct and oversee an in-depth analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) datasets for the discovery of antibodies with high specificities to cellular antigens and for the improvement of antibody libraries. Reporting to the Director of the TRAC, this role would support all bioinformatics and data mining needs of TRAC and the Sidhu lab.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Bioinformatics or relevant field of research with 3-4 years of experience in data mining and analysis of massive sequence datasets (specifically NGS datasets). Demonstrated knowledge of programming languages is required (python and R preferred), including familiarity with machine learning and biostatistics, and prediction algorithms. The incumbent should have a publication record and be able to prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-review publications/journals. Demonstrated experience presenting research findings at conferences/seminars. Ability to multi-task and work independently and collaboratively with others on projects, ensuring project goals are met within the context of the larger program. Previous experience co-ordinating multiple projects, and strong problem-solving, data analysis and reporting skills is required.

Key Duties:

    Conduct in silico research analysis and compiles resulting data to support projects in the Toronto Recombinant Antibody Center (TRAC).Generate prediction to identify antibodies targeting cancer-specific surface receptors. Develop and design new synthetic antibody libraries and provide improvements on available libraries.Conduct independent research consistent with the goals of the program.Liaise with collaborators and assist in the compilation, analysis and reporting of research findings to researchers within and outside of the program.
    Work with multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional teams.

Beyond these responsibilities, the incumbent will be expected to participate in the preparation of grant applications and supervision of one or more students or other trainees in their research. At all times, the incumbent is expected to support the overall research and teaching missions of the lab. The incumbent will be expected to perform research with a high degree of independence and will design, direct, execute, analyze and present in written and oral forms novel investigative studies that build on and/or take advantage of the resources and expertise within the lab as well as incumbent’s academic expertise.
