Job Description
The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine Department of Pathology Research is currently recruiting for a Laboratory Research Assistant

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs routine laboratory maintenance and standard activities such as: general housekeeping, preparing solutions, buffers, and specimens; executing biochemical procedures such as: spectrophotometric and fluorometric assays, HPLC, chromatography, and mass spectrometry, etc.
  • Compiles clinical and quality control data using Excel, Microsoft Access, and other computer software applications.
  • May perform advanced laboratory research activities or participate in the design of new studies.
  • May perform administrative duties such as: training and guiding students and/or other laboratory technicians; assisting in developing policies, procedures and/or methods for laboratory experimentation, ordering supplies, entering patient demographic information, and filing reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 



Qualifications
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry and/or related field.

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in clinical or research laboratory preferred.

OTHER: Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, and shipping of hazardous materials.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Basic understanding and utilization of scientific and technical language and symbols. Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgements. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to work as part of a team. Ability to use a consultative approach to resolve issues in area of responsibility. Ability to perform assays in a laboratory setting working with independence for all routine procedures. Ability to help lead certain assay development activities and perform various advanced laboratory procedures. Develops policies, procedures, and introduces changes as necessary. Provides guidance and training to laboratory personnel and students. Ability to participate in the design of clinical research studies and preparation of technical procedures and reports.

Hiring Range: Low to high $40,000s, commensurate with education and experience
