Accounting Assistant III

Regular Full-time, Pay Range MR04

The Accounting Assistant III position will serve as a cashier for student fees, receipt incoming fee payments daily using Banner, and TouchNet Cashiering systems. Process External Scholarships using the Banner System as well as OnBase.  Reconcile daily using Banner and TouchNet.  Assist walk-in customers.  Answer main Bursar phone line.  Add charges (proficiency Exam, Transcript, Duplicate Diplomas), respond to inquiries, add fee waiver data, process student refund checks, disburse federal financial aid and other duties as required.  Position resolves One Stop Footprints tickets and assists with incoming emails to Bursar account.   Assists with fee appeal worksheets, Argos reports, and other duties assigned by supervisor. Two years of college is preferred or the equivalent work experience.  The successful candidate must possess excellent communication and organizational skills along with the ability to multi-task. He or she must be able to research student accounts and explain account activity.

Required Qualifications & Competencies:

High school diploma

Knowledge of University policies and procedures

Knowledge of personal computer use and software programs (Microsoft Suite, Banner, TouchNet, various Internet browsers)

Knowledge of basic office equipment (multi-line phone, 10-key adding machine, laser check writer, laser printer, scanner/copier)

Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and time management skills

Strong prioritizing and organizational skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills

The ability to adapt to new procedures and collaborate with other staff members

The ability to efficiently multi-task in a past-paced office environment

The ability to work with frustrated and/or angry clients to diffuse stressful situations

Excellent Customer Service skills

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Associates Degree

 

Experience in diffusing potentially volatile situations, handling frustrated customers, and appropriately resolving their conflicts. Prior office atmosphere experience would be preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential. Must possess strong analytical skills to analyze and interpret complex financial data. Excellent organizational skills for multi-task projects would be heavily preferred. This position handles all incoming phone lines into the Bursar’s office. The call volume is consistently high. This position requires an enormous responsibility to be quality efficient as well as quantity efficient. You must possess the correct information to be able to perform with high levels of customer service. The Bursar’s office is one of the most frequently contacted offices. The ability to help meet the parent/student needs the first time is a direct reflection of the University’s goal for a positive image.
