The Business School has an opening for a full- time University Staff (unclassified) Academic Services Director position.

Nature of Work

Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support for the teaching and/or educational service mission of the university. Functions include academic advising/counseling, student personnel administration, recruitment and admissions, registration, financial aid, faculty affairs, library services, curriculum administration, and others involving direct support of the educational mission of an academic unit.

The Director is responsible for the design, implementation, and success of the First Generation and Multicultural Business Program.  Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Success, the Director works closely and collaboratively with faculty and staff within the Business School and campus.  The Director inspires students and external supporters to embrace the program’s mission and work together to build an ecosystem of support that increases retention, persistence to graduation, and job placement.

Examples of Work Performed

Leadership

  • Provide overall strategic direction and design of the First Generation and Multicultural Business program
  • Represent the aspirations and current state of the program to internal and external constituents
  • Identify, develop, and maintain key metrics that represent the success of the program
  • Design and maintain space for the program
  • Work with business school faculty and staff to keep them abreast of current trends, issues, and needs related to this work
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and deans on curriculum and program design
Programming

  • In partnership with the faculty, integrate the program content into the curriculum
  • Develop and oversee peer and career mentor programs
  • Develop and oversee co-curricular programs such as workshops, guest speakers, and company tours
  • Develop and oversee a program to help companies succeed in hiring and retaining first-generation and multicultural graduates
  • Establishing expectations and benchmarks for student success of first-generation and multicultural students, including retention metrics
  • Create and manage the program’s budget
External Relations

  • Lead the founder’s advisory council and utilize the council’s guidance in designing and running the program
  • Recruit and supervise volunteers to serve in an advisory capacity and as mentors for the program
  • Promote program externally and seek out partnerships and relatable programs that will positively impact students
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employers interested in the program
  • Assist the Dean and development officers in the solicitation of gifts and grants as needed
General

  • Identify and develop additional support and resources based on first-gen student needs that may not already exist
  • Plan programming, events, and initiatives dedicated specifically toward first-gen experience and integration into business school and UCD campus
  • Represent the Business School on campus matters related to first-generation and URM students
  • Assist with new student recruiting efforts as needed

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $80,000 to $93,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.  

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, social science, liberal arts, education, communications, counseling, psychology, ethnic studies, or other closely related fields
  • Six years of progressively responsible, professional-level experience in student affairs, including leadership experience
  • Experience working effectively with diverse groups and communities, preferably in higher education or a larger business setting.
Substitution: An unrelated bachelor's degree and 2 additional years of professional, related experience may substitute for the related degree requirement.

Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business, social science, liberal arts, education, communications, counseling, psychology, ethnic studies, or other closely related fields
  • Experience supporting first-generation and underrepresented populations
  • Experience within a business school or business setting
  • Experience as a mentor and with a mentoring program
  • Demonstrated experience creating and implementing student recruitment initiatives
