This is a part time (20 hours per week) position and is term limited (one year). This grant funded position will end in June of 2020.

Overview/Duties-maintaining regulatory binders for all active studies, working to keep existing IRB protocols renewed, amended, and otherwise handled according to the instructions of the PIs for those studies and in accordance with the normal procedures of the IRB.

  • Preparing for study monitoring or study audit visits.
  • Assisting with addressing and correcting findings.
  • Using Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems, technologies, and software necessary for study operations.
  • Entering data, completing Case Report Forms accurately and according to protocol
  • Maintaining Duke and study specific training requirements.

He/she will recognize and employ the professional guidelines and code of ethics related to the conduct of clinical research; summarize and clarify for study teams. May be responsible for identifying potential problems and risks to the participants, study, and institution. He/she will be expected to help with development of new IRB protocols, as well as to identify, recruit and enroll participants into existing IRB-approved studies within the Pediatric Ophthalmology Division. Additional duties/opportunities will include collecting, compiling, documenting, and – as appropriate – participating in analysis of collected clinical research data. The opportunity for co-authorship will be available for the very motivated candidate who demonstrates significant contributions to research studies that proceed to scientific publication. The ideal candidate will have had some exposure to participation in clinical research protocols, including the process of participant selection, informed consent, and working within an IRB-approved study. He/she should have a strong interest in clinical research, and interested in not only the CRC job, but in facilitating the smooth operations of the clinical research activities within the Pediatric Division in the Ophthalmology department.

Experience
Work requires a minimum of two years of relevant research experience. A Bachelor's degree may substitute for 2 years required experience.

Duke University was created in 1924 by James Buchanan Duke as a memorial to his father, Washington Duke. The Dukes, a Durham family that built a worldwide financial empire in the manufacture of tobacco products and developed electricity production in the Carolinas, long had been interested in Trinity College. Trinity traced its roots to 1838 in nearby Randolph County when local Methodist and Quaker communities opened Union Institute. The school, then named Trinity College, moved to Durham in 1892, where Benjamin Newton Duke served as a primary benefactor and link with the Duke family until his death in 1929. In December 1924, the provisions of indenture by Benjamin’s brother, James B. Duke, created the family philanthropic foundation, The Duke Endowment, which provided for the expansion of Trinity College into Duke University.Duke Campus

Both men and women undergraduates now enroll in either the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences or the Pratt School of Engineering. In 1995, East Campus became the home for all first-year students.
