Distance learning course sections are only available after successfully teaching face-to-face classes.  Applicants seeking a strictly online course schedule need not apply for this position. Position Summary The Adjunct – Culinary position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with major emphasis placed on teaching, supporting and evaluating students.  The Adjunct role provides instruction and monitors teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair, or other leadership members.  The incumbent must exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask while engaging large groups of people with complicated material. Core Competencies Required Professionalism, Managing Work, Continuous Improvement, Customer/Student/Employee Focus, Collaboration, Quality Focus, Communication, Guiding Interactions, Positive Approach, Planning & Organizing Essential Job Functions In conjunction with the Sports, Exercise Studies, and Hospitality Programs department’s policies, teaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primary responsibility for the delivery of the curriculum in the classroom, ensuring both the rigor of the program and quality of instruction in order to achieve course outcomes.  Employs appropriate teaching and learning strategies and uses available instructional technology.   Distributes and submits syllabi for all assigned sections in accordance with department and College policies.  Maintains student attendance records and submits reports by specified deadlines.  Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule. Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction and support for learners.  Regularly communicates with students and is available either in person or electronically.  Encourages a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom. Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course outcomes and objectives.  Communicates course progress to students in a timely manner.  Determines and submits student grades (electronic format) in accordance with established College policies and procedures.  Assists in the identification of students with academic or other needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resource.  Maintains confidentiality of student information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties, and professional development. Other Duties and Responsibilities Attend department meetings and trainings as required.  Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.  Usual Physical Requirements While performing duties of this job the employee: regularly stands and walks for extended periods of time, and occasionally sits; converses verbally with others in person and by telephone; regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer; occasionally reaches with hands or arms, climbs or balances and stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls; and frequently uses hand or fingers to touch. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision and distance vision. Employee occasionally lifts or exerts force of up to 10 pounds. Working Conditions Normal classroom and office working conditions.  Travel may be required based upon assignment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of:  online instruction techniques and methods; Microsoft Office; BlackBoard; internet research; online communication and record-keeping. Skill in:  providing quality instruction; learning technologies and the use of multi-media technology to enhance to enhance student learning; instructional planning and presentation; incorporating critical thinking, effective communication and other general education outcomes in course content; effective time management; proficiency with online communication record-keeping. Ability to:  effectively communicate and use interpersonal skills; create engaging learning environments that respect a wide variety of viewpoints; be sensitive to the needs and concerns of a diverse student population, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities; work independently without ongoing supervision; meet deadlines; perform student learning outcomes; maintain confidential and sensitive information, including FERPA.

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate will need to have at least 5 years of industry experience in a commercial kitchen where they prepared food from recipes and menus for paying guests. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

Candidate will be required to obtain NRAEF Serv/Safe certified at level II for the State of Ohio within 60 days of employment, if not previously certified.
