The Database Programmer (DP) provides technical and programming support and expertise to the Sr. Database Engineer in support of the following activities:
This position is contingent upon funding.
Job Description
The Database Developer's responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Data Quality/Reporting Enhancements: Support the development and maintenance of automated reporting tools across EDC systems to expedite accurate, usable and repeatable data outputs.
- Database Design/Maintenance:
- Assist in the development/maintenance of process documents, workflows and template forms necessary to support CCI's implementation and continued use of the Veeva CDMS system.
- Assist in the development of technical documentation required to support the Veeva EDC system.
- Design/build databases for CCI clinical trials utilizing the Veeva EDC system:
- Collaborate with the Sr. Database Engineer and the assigned study team to build/deploy new databases/amendments.
- Build/configure the Casebook Schedule to align with study requirements, maximize data collection/review activities, and reduce inefficiencies.
- Configure/maintain required study-level system functionality.
- Collaborate with the Sr. Database Engineer and the assigned study team to build/deploy new databases/amendments.
- Participate in the Veeva eCRF template development team; Facilitate metadata review/validation of new templates and study-level CRFs and casebook schedules as assigned.
- Assist in the development of standard rules and edit check configurations within the Veeva EDC system.
- Perform peer review of both eCRF functionality and CDASH standardization.
- Provide technical guidance/support to the Data Management Team for the development/maintenance of new/ongoing databases.
- Assist in the development of technical and training manuals to support system implementation/use.
- Assist in the development/maintenance of process documents, workflows and template forms necessary to support CCI's implementation and continued use of the Veeva CDMS system.
- System Maintenance/Functionality:
- Work with the Sr. Database Engineer to investigate specialized system functionality and test innovative new ideas within the CDMS; provide recommendations for both CCI and SOM use/implementation.
- Investigate CDMS usage issues and malfunctions, identify potential solutions, and make recommendations to Data Management Leadership for appropriate corrective action and/or implementation.
- Participate in meetings with CDMS vendors to resolve technical issues as required.
- Work with the Sr. Database Engineer to investigate specialized system functionality and test innovative new ideas within the CDMS; provide recommendations for both CCI and SOM use/implementation.
- Technical Support:
- Provide system-level training/expertise on the Veeva CDMS to the CCI Clinical Operations and Sponsor Operations Teams.
- Provide centralized technical support/expertise to the ClinOps Data Management Team within the PennCTMS/Velos system and as well as within general DM reporting activities.
- Provide system-level training/expertise on the Veeva CDMS to the CCI Clinical Operations and Sponsor Operations Teams.
- Clinical Data Manager Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development of study-specific data management documents, including Data Management Plans, Case Report Form Completion Guidelines, training materials, etc.
- Participate in the preparation and presentation of study data/reports.
- Facilitate data management review of assigned studies and ensure data quality/completeness.
- Produce/review/distribute data management reports.
- Develop and conduct Investigator/Study Team training on the Clinical Database, CRFs, and data entry requirements.
- Provide input into study and project level data analysis plans.
- Participate in the preparation and presentation of study data/reports.
- Facilitate data cleaning activities including data review and query generation for assigned protocols.
- Interface with sponsor/site teams to support study-specific data management responsibilities.
- Assist in the development of study-specific data management documents, including Data Management Plans, Case Report Form Completion Guidelines, training materials, etc.
To be successful in this role the Database Programmer will need to maneuver within a matrixed environment and be comfortable working with various electronic database systems. Knowledge of at least one programing language and ability to use the system built-in functions to write codes is required. If is also strongly recommended that the candidate have advanced knowledge in one or more of the following coding languages: VBA, SQL or CQL (a SQL like Clinical Quality Language). The Database Programmer is also expected to have familiarity and experience with clinical trial protocols and related regulatory requirements for therapeutic clinical trials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree with 2-3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Previous Data Management experience providing clinical data management support for complex, high-risk, multisite clinical trials required.
- Knowledge of electronic data capture systems required. (PennCTMS/Velos and Veeva Vault)
- Good understanding of and/or experience with descriptive data analysis methods, the drug development process and associated federal regulations and guidelines (i.e. FDA, CFR, ICH, GCP).
The candidate must possess and have demonstrated the following skills:
- Ability to manage projects independently and on schedule.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Experience in at least one programming language is required.
Preferred experience/skills:
Proficiency in SQL and/or CQL are preferred, but not required.
