SUNY Sullivan is seeking to fill the position of Mentor Tutor in the Liberty Partnerships Program. The Mentor – Tutor will assist the Director and Coordinator in implementing the Liberty Partnerships Program, an after-school, day school and summer program designed to promote successful graduation, college readiness and career development among high school students. Some daytime hours may be required. Programming occurs at local school districts, field trips, and on the SUNY Sullivan campus. It requires a flexible work schedule. Night and weekends may occasionally be required for special events. The Mentor Tutor for the Liberty Partnerships Program reports to the LPP Director, and will take direction from the Program & Education Coordinator. This is a part-time, grant-funded position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Interact with students in order to assess their academic needs, work with the LPP team to develop learning plans and assist with designing curriculums.
  • Assist in directing and coordinating the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Liberty Partnerships Program in and out-of- school time for high school students enrolled in programming at the Liberty Partnership Program.
  • Tutor LPP students based on assessed areas of need.
  • Comfortable assisting students with academic/homework needs at the middle and high school level.
  • Facilitate group discussions on topics related to college readiness, life skills and youth development.
  • Mentoring students regarding academic and personal issues at the individual and group level.
  • Keep informed of current trends in education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

The Mentor-Tutor will receive $16.37 to $18.31 per hour depending on experience, and may work up to 25 hours per week, depending on the needs of the program and dates that the public schools are in session. SUNY Sullivan is seeking to fill the full-time, tenure-track position of Computer Science and Information Technology Faculty in the division of Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Health Sciences, for a Fall 2021 appointment. Faculty members are expected to participate in curriculum development and review and serve on college-wide committees. Experience teaching and the ability to interact with a diverse student and staff population is required for all faculty positions.

SUNY Sullivan faculty have the primary responsibility of teaching and assessing student learning. Faculty duties include teaching, advising, working toward continuous improvement to pedagogy and discipline specific content, service to the College through shared governance, and sharing one’s expertise in Sullivan County. QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems & Technology or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning preferred; or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems and 6 years or more experience in the field.
  • Professional experience in Computer Science & Computer Information Systems or related field is highly desirable.
  • Teaching experience, preferably in the community college setting.

Buildings & Grounds Maintenance Worker

SUNY Sullivan is seeking to fill the position of Buildings & Grounds Maintenance Worker. You will participate as a member of the B&G team in carrying out the day-to-day operations and activities of the Buildings & Grounds Unit. This position performs a variety of routine tasks involved in the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, and equipment. The duties of the position involve the thorough execution of unskilled tasks which follow a well-established routine or specifically defined assignment such as snow removal, lawn maintenance, moving furniture and replacing filters. All work is done under general supervision.

Evening and weekend hours may be required.

This position provides reports to the B&G Maintenance Supervisor. It is classified as non-competitive Civil Service and the incumbent is a member of the Teamsters bargaining unit.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of work experience in a position requiring the use of standard hand tools in a mechanical or construction trade or in grounds maintenance or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Completed coursework and/or experience in one or more of the following trades desirable: Landscaping; Small Engine Repair; Plumbing; Electrical; Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC); Carpentry; and/or Masonry.
  • Basic knowledge of: modern buildings and grounds maintenance and repair methods, materials and equipment; standard safety precautions used in working in potentially hazardous situations; the uses of standard mechanical tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn how to properly operate new building and grounds maintenance equipment and follow new B&G procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists skilled craftsman by performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical wiring, roofing, heating, and air conditioning.
  • Participates in general grounds maintenance activities, including raking leaves, planting and caring for trees, shrubs and plants, mowing lawns, cutting brush, digging trenches, sweeping sidewalks, and shoveling snow.
  • Assists with basic mechanical duties involved in the maintenance and repair of small motors, heating and ventilation equipment, and other buildings and grounds equipment.
  • Make minor repairs to building and equipment.
  • Drive vehicles to make mail pick up or deliveries, transact bank business, pick up supplies, or perform other chauffer or messenger functions.
  • Perform routine labor or cleaning duties such as moving furniture, replacing light bulbs, collecting or disposing of trash, hanging pictures, assembling furniture, and putting up shelves.
  • Assists in special event and classroom set-ups as required.
  • May operate trucks, automobiles, air compressors and other motorized equipment.
  • May keep basic records and reports on maintenance performed and materials used.
  • May assist in mail room or stock room as required.

SUNY Sullivan is seeking to fill the position of Director of Institutional Technology. This position provides leadership and direction to the College’s technology services. You are responsible for: (1) oversight of Network Services, Enterprise Applications, Information Technology Operations, and Instructional Design and Online Learning; and (2) management of technology operations and administration.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline is the minimum qualification; a Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of experience supporting administrative and instructional technology services, including personnel, planning, software rollout and support, and budgeting.
  • Evidence of a thorough understanding of community colleges.
  • Familiarity with the college’s major software systems, including Jenzabar One or similar system.
  • Outstanding ability to communicate, orally and in writing, in interpersonal, small group and public settings, with people whose background is not in IT and who may not be fully comfortable with IT systems or language.

Technical Assistant – Seelig Theater (Part-Time)

SUNY Sullivan is seeking to fill the part-time position of Technical Assistant – Seelig Theater. Incumbent provides technical assistance to the presentation and delivery of campus theater productions, campus events such as meetings, conferences, student engagement activities, lectures, classes, as well as facility-rental events by external groups, including performances such as operas, governmental meetings, movie screenings and more, and assists in coordinating the upkeep and maintenance of the Seelig Theater. This position reports to the Theater Arts Coordinator. Evening and weekend hours are required. This is a part-time position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in related field, OR at least three (3) years of related experience in the operation of theater equipment and the upkeep and maintenance of a theater facility.
  • Demonstrated experience in operating theater lighting and sound systems (i.e. ETC Ion or equivalent, Mackie soundboard or equivalent, ETC dimmers or equivalent, QVC amplifiers or equivalent), live-stream satellite equipment, and multimedia cross-platform computer hardware and software, with the ability to troubleshoot both hardware and software problems. Soldering and drafting experience, and ETCP Electrician and/or Proscenium Rigging certification highly desirable.
  • The ability to evaluate and recommend equipment and software for purchase and work with vendors.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents, and to interact with the community and guests in the theater.

SUNY Sullivan is seeking to fill the position of Office Manager in the area of Student Success and Workforce Development. The Office Manager is a hands-on position where the essential functions include a combination of secretarial tasks, customer service, staff and/or student orientations and the coordination of departmental processes and services. The work is performed in accordance with the general instructions received from the Dean of Student Success and Workforce Development or designee, with wide leeway permitted for the exercise of independent judgment.

This position may entail working some Saturdays and evening hours.

This position reports to the Dean of Student Success and Workforce Development or designee and may supervise clerical support staff and work study students.

This is a noncompetitive Civil Service position and the incumbent is a member of the Teamsters Union.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree in Secretarial Science, Business Administration, Office Management, or similar field of study.
  • Two to three years of experience in a busy office, which includes at least one year of supervising support staff. Experience in a college or university setting a plus.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience as listed above.
  • General knowledge of methods used in keeping financial accounts and records.
  • Typing/keyboarding skills of at least 50 words per minute.

Residence Director

The SUNY Sullivan Dormitory Corporation is seeking to fill the position of Residence Director. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Engagement, the Residence Director (RD) is a live-in, 12-month professional position with primary responsibility for coordinating the daily management of the residential facilities. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide management and leadership for two residential facilities housing up to 380 residents.
  • Develop and implement social, cultural and educational programs for residents. May work with the college’s student activities, athletics and learning center staff as in developing and implementing programs.
  • Create and host August, January and ongoing monthly development and training for RA staff.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities including but not limited to occupancy records, room assignments, fire safety projects, opening and closing of the residence halls, etc.
  • Participate in interviewing and selecting Resident Assistant staff members.
  • Work with the Director of Student Activities, Director of Athletics, the Associate Dean for Student Engagement and Housing and the Coordinator of First Year Experience to assist in the orientation program for residents with the intent to augment positive roommate and floor resident interaction, and encourage positive respect among diverse residents.
  • Investigate all alleged infractions, conduct room inspections/searches and report findings to the Associate Dean for Student Engagement. Recommend disciplinary actions, and participate in conduct hearings.
  • Hold regular published office hours.
  • As a live-in professional, the Residence Director will provide on-duty coverage as required by the schedule.
  • Work with campus personnel in supporting summer program residents regarding access to facilities, quality of services, acquiring and dispensing special supplies or furnishings, and responding to reasonable needs of temporary residents.

  • Teaching faculty will teach the courses assigned to them in collaboration with their Division Dean (Note: Workload is set by the contract between Sullivan County Community College and the Professional Staff Association). Courses to include but are not limited to Essentials of Personal Training I & II, Physical Fitness & Wellness, Advanced First Aid & CPR, Therapeutic Recreation, Introduction to Physical Education, Sport & Event Management, Heath Sciences as applied to Coaching, Theory & Techniques of Coaching, various PE Courses, etc.
  • Faculty is expected to secure optimum progress on the part of students through exercising resourcefulness, varying classroom procedure, and demonstrating a genuine and contagious interest in the subject s/he teaches in order to stimulate the interest and the intellectual curiosity of her/his students, and to inspire students to think for themselves.
  • Faculty is expected to advise an average of 20+ students per semester (or direct a student success project mutually agreed upon in consultation with the VP in lieu of advising). As an advisor, faculty will assist students with schedule-making and be available to discuss a variety of topics of concern to the student. Faculty should demonstrate an appreciation and respect for students, a patient and tactful manner of meeting them on common ground, and an appreciation of their viewpoint in order to establish a personal rapport with advisees that engenders trust, disclosure, help-seeking, and respect.
  • Faculty will maintain one office hour per week for consultation with students for each three credits taught, with a minimum of four. To the extent practicable, such office hours should be distributed throughout the week.

SUNY Sullivan is seeking to fill the position of Counselor. The Counselor is responsible to the Director of Learning and Student Development Services (Learning Center). Although there are some specific duties listed below which illustrate the type of work performed, the person holding this position will serve as a member of the Learning Center team. Work hours as assigned by the Director of Learning and Student Development Services and as needed to meet programming schedule requirements and occasionally includes evening and weekend work.

This position is a member of the Professional Staff Association.

Qualifications

  • Position requires a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Clinical or Counseling Psychology
  • Three (3) years’ experience in college counseling, community college experience preferred

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide personal, social, academic skill and career counseling, as well as crisis intervention, including but not limited to alcohol/drug use, sexual assault, depression, suicide and other mental health issues.
  • Serve as a member of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) which at times requires case management as recommended by the team
  • Provide academic advising
  • Participate in registration and orientation activities
  • Participate in training Resident Assistants (RA’s) as requested
  • Provide outreach to students in form of pamphlets and informational messages, as well as coordinate group counseling sessions for identified common needs of students.
  • Facilitate faculty and staff understanding of mental health issues, including depression and suicide, and how they can positively deal with students on campus and in class with such challenges, within privacy guidelines
  • Work with other campus programs/offices to arrange on-campus psycho-educational programming with outside agencies.
  • Act as a liaison to community mental health sources for consultation, referral and campus resource enhancement.
  • Serve as a retention counselor in dealing with potential student withdrawals.
  • Prepare reports and maintain relevant documentation according to HIPAA and FERPA guidelines.
  • All members of the Learning Center team perform the following:
  • Make tutoring appointments. Administer and interpret placement and testing results.
  • Provide information to students, faculty, parents and guidance counselors about the array of services offered by the Center for Student Learning and Development Services and academic departments.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Director of Learning and Student Development Services.

Coordinator of College for Educational Enrichment

SUNY Sullivan is seeking to fill the part-time position of Coordinator of College for Educational Enrichment. The successful candidate will be a self-directed professional with strong planning, organizational, and communication skills needed to develop and oversee educational enrichment programs for adults with developmental disabilities. This position reports to the President.

The College for Educational Enrichment (CEE) has been in operation at SUNY Sullivan since 1979. CEE’s success has been made possible through the cooperative efforts of New Hope Community, Crystal Run Village, The Center for Discovery, Sullivan ARC and the College. This program provides educational opportunities for adults aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with a developmental disability. SUNY Sullivan was one of the first colleges in the nation to provide such a program.

Evening hours are required. Weekend hours may be required. This is a part time position.

This position is not part of any bargaining unit and is funded by agency contributions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree and certification in the Human Services field. Bachelor’s preferred.
  • At least two (2) years teaching experience.
  • Understands the needs of individuals with various disabilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overall administration of the program including:

  • Development of the CEE program, curriculum, and course descriptions
  • Interviewing and selecting instructors, assistants, and aides
  • Evaluating the program
  • Finding other ways in which the College and the CEE program can serve the community
  • Seeking continued funding for the coordination of the program in subsequent years
  • Orienting community agency staff regarding CEE program
  • Obtaining curriculum materials and supplies
  • Arranging and participating in student recognition activities
  • Executing classroom observations and meetings with instructional staff
  • Preparing of quarterly reports, budget reports, and fiscal monitoring
  • Monitoring and evaluating of all aspects of the CEE program
  • Networking with community agencies

Performs other reasonable duties as might be assigned by the President.

Under the direction of the College President, the Chief Diversity Officer leads the development and implementation of proactive diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in support of the College’s strategic plan to create a learning and working environment where all have an opportunity to succeed. The Chief Diversity Officer position reports directly to the President. The Chief Diversity Officer champions the importance and value of a diverse and inclusive college environment and leads the development of a vision and effective strategy to create a culture for equity, diversity, and inclusion. The Chief Diversity Officer actively engages students, faculty, and staff to further behaviors, attitudes, and policies that support diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Chief Diversity Officer will collaborate with College stakeholders to assess potential barriers and develop strategies to recruit and retain a diverse workforce. The Chief Diversity Officer will also collaborate with college stakeholders to assess the need for, and recommend training initiatives on, cultural competency, gender differences, disability, sexual harassment, and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values, and maintaining compliance with applicable laws.

Qualifications

  • Position requires a Master’s Degree in Diversity Education, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and chair a campus-wide Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee
  • Create, through collaboration with appropriate leaders across all key campus functions, a DEI campus plan and assessment metrics, ensure the plan is incompliance with the SUNY Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policy and other State and Federal laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the DEI campus plan and goals assessment.
  • Prepare reports on the DEI annual initiatives, goals and outcomes.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson in communicating the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as sharing the DEI plan to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate periodic assessments related to campus climate for diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Engage in collegial, professional dialogue with faculty regarding the incorporation of learning materials and perspectives that are engaging for all members of a diverse student population to further enhance curriculum, academic rigor and the preparation of students to be successful in a global society.
  • Develop and implement trainings, seminars, lectures, events, and discussions.
  • Participate in orientation activities and Resident Assistant trainings as needed.
  • Serve as a mentor to students.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the President of the College.
