General Description:

The Senior Systems Administrator performs installation, operation, administration and maintenance of information systems that support the mission of the institution including directory services, virtual environments, thin client solutions, storage area networks, servers, and backup systems. This position is the senior technical staff member on the systems operations team and works under the supervision of the Director of IT Infrastructure.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Three years full time work experience with Microsoft infrastructure components or equivalent experience in similar environments.

Three or more Microsoft Certifications relevant to infrastructure administration or MCITP certification on Windows Server 2008 (Server 2012 MCSA/MCSE certifications may be substituted).

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to diagnose problems or malfunctions and accomplish repairs in a minimal amount of time.

Ability to make independent decisions quickly in emergency situations.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to make skillful, controlled manipulations of small objects such as wiring, tools, and small equipment parts.

Ability to learn job-related material through oral instruction, observation, structured lecture, and reading.

Ability to enter data or information into a computer terminal, personal computer, or other keyboard device.

Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and algebra.

Knowledge of the uses, calibration, and care of electronic test equipment, specialized test equipment and diagnostics used for troubleshooting server systems.

Knowledge of basic scripting.

Knowledge of cable distribution and basic principles of electricity.

Knowledge of standard Ethernet wiring, color coding, and connection schemes.

Ability to establish priorities for own workload.

Ability to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

Knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Windows Server administration, e-mail systems, web-based applications, and instructional support technology.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

Ability to move objects weighing 50 pounds or more short distances.

Work under pressure, handling significant problems or tasks which come up simultaneously or unexpectedly.

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree from an accredited institution of higher education in information management or related information technology field.

Advanced certification such as:
MCSA – Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate – Server 2012

MCSE – Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert – Server 2012

MCTS – *Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist

MCITP – *Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional

*Note that the MCTS and MCITP would need to be pertinent to the job in terms of specialization (Server 2008 Active Directory Configuration, Server 2008 Network Infrastructure Configuration, Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure Configuration)

Job Duties (Position Specific):

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):

Install, maintain and administer Windows Server 2003/2008/2012 Active Directory Services infrastructure and related systems.
Administer third-party and other related systems to the ERP system.
Administer all email systems, course management systems and distributed learning systems.
Manage Microsoft server security configuration and patching.
Provision and administer user credentials, access rights, permissions and control systems.
Install, maintain and administer DHCP, DNS, IIS, FTP, SFTP, SSH, and other network services.
Perform technical administration tasks including application installation, configuration, patch maintenance, upgrades, change management controls and documentation.
Consult with end users on the performance aspects of the software applications and work closely with other IITS staff to evaluate, design, develop, test, and document the enhancement of existing IT resources and the integration of new information resources.
Administer server hardware and software inventories and associated documentation
Install, maintain and administer storage area networks, thin clients, virtual servers and virtual desktop systems.
Provide technical leadership in continued development of assigned systems.
Respond to server resource monitoring alerts.
Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve daily backup process failures.
Monitor and work customer support tickets and requests.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.
Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.
Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.
Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
