Description
Under the direction of the Director of Student Activities and Community Service, this position is responsible for the oversight and implementation of programming related to student clubs and organizations, fraternity and sorority advisement, and student activities planning.  The position delivers and assesses programming that promotes student engagement and supports the mission of the Student Life department.  A varied work schedule is required to include evening and weekend functions/events/trainings.  As a member of the university community, the position collaborates across the institution with various campus departments inclusive of but not limited to the following:  University Center, Dean of Students, International Affairs, Residential Life and Housing, Campus Recreation, Risk Management, Public Safety, and Facility Services.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinate all aspects of student club and organization operations to include supervision of the Student Life front desk.
  • Recruit, hire, schedule, supervise, and evaluate Student Life student employees assigned to the front desk.
  • Ensure that the Student Life office is staffed during regular business hours as determined by the university.
  • Develop a learning outcomes-based program that standardizes and structures of the student employment experience by identifying broad learning outcomes that students will achieve through their work in Student Life.
  • In coordination with the professional team and in line with the Social Change Model of Leadership Development, plan and implement an ongoing training program for Student Life staff.
  • Develop, conduct, promote, and assess the following key programming initiatives:
  • The club registration / renewal process
  • The student club / organization event registration process
  • Training for student clubs and club advisors
  • Group travel meetings
  • Club Fair
  • ROAR Awards
  • Club and organization outreach and recruitment
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and investigator, in collaboration with the Dean of Student Office, for intake of concerns related to club and sorority & fraternity conduct.
  • Serve as the campus fraternity and sorority life advisor, providing advisement, direction, education, and training for all fraternity and sorority organizations and leaders.
  • As part of the professional team, staff and support special events as assigned.
  • Communicate the importance of student engagement in leadership opportunities through involvement in student clubs and organizations, the importance of student leadership in those groups, and the relevance and important role of out of the classroom learning to the total development of the student.
  • Assist and mentor club / organization officers and Student Life staff members in their development within their positions and in other areas. 
  • Conduct regular outreach to all student clubs and organizations, attend club meetings, and meet with advisors.
  • Identify opportunities of recruitment and growth for new student clubs and organizations.

  • Appropriately and effectively delegate the ongoing cleaning, organization, and upkeep of the Student Life office to student employees.
  • Provide timely communication (e-mail, phone, social media, face-to-face, and meetings)
  • Respond to inquiries/questions from both internal and external customers in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.
  • Maintain the highest standard of follow-through.
  • Establish an effective organizational system for tracking meeting notes, meeting dates and times, and action items.
  • Attend campus meetings, as assigned by the Director of Student Activities and Community Service.  Take detailed notes and provide these to the director.
  • Serve as a positive, energetic, innovative member of the Student Life professional staff and collaborate with internal and external partners. 
  • Conduct on-going assessment/research

  • Based on CAS standards and the Social Change Model, develop and identify specific learning outcomes for each area of responsibility.
  • Provide the Director of Student Activities and Community Service with monthly reports, analyzing trends and tracking progress toward strategic goals.
  • In conjunction with the Student Life professional team, explore opportunities for research and development.  Publish research findings in professional journals or present at professional conferences.
  • Job Competencies:

  • This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

    What We Offer:

    Salary Range: Generally starting at $35,618 - $40,788

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    This position is dependent on the availability of auxiliary revenues funding.

    Tentative Search Timeline:

    • The potential employee start date is 7/12/2021.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Requirements:

    Bachelor’s degree in student affairs, education, communication, leadership or applicable field from an accredited college or university.Two years total experience that includes both advising college students in the co-curricular arena that may include student programs, leadership, and student services, as well as supervising front desk employees or related.  

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, education, or applicable field from an accredited college or university.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with student clubs and organizations in a college setting.
  • Experience working with fraternities and sororities in an advisory capacity.
  • Experience working with student conduct in a college setting or in the field of education.
  • Experience applying student development theory in a volunteer or employment setting.
  •  Physical Requirements:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit.  Employee is occasionally required to move. Tasks may involve using a computer screen continuously for long periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
