General Description

Under the direction of the Career Services Director and the Dean of Student Services, the Transfer & Career Center Specialist will perform a variety of specialized duties related to the planning and implementation of transfer and career services in support of student success. This will include, but is not limited to: providing drop-in students with transfer and career information, facilitation of transfer and career workshops, planning and implementing program events & activities and assisting transfer and career counselors with student services.

This is a Full-Time 12 month position, 7:45 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. Initial placement is at $48,816.

Job Duties

Job duties of the Transfer & Career Center Specialist include:

  • Maintain regular contact with students to address and assist with transfer and career services problem solving; update student’s files as necessary.
  • Plan, collaborate and support presentations or workshops as part of Transfer and Career services.
  • Plan, organize and deliver on and off campus activities and programs to provide information and assistance to students regarding Transfer and Career services.
  • Prepare and edit a wide variety of materials such as correspondence, reports, forms, applications, flyers, brochures, memoranda and other documents.
  • Provide and maintain accurate information about educational and student support programs of the college; distribute information to students and public via website, social media, newsletters, flyers, brochures, posters, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
  • Prepare and disseminate information, applications, and other program related documentation/items to students.
  • Establish, track and maintain professional contacts/relationship with local and regional business partners, community partners, services agencies and educational agencies to assist with transfer and career services.
  • Attend staff meetings, conferences, and seminars to maintain current knowledge regarding program eligibility requirements, regulations and District policies.
  • Utilize the District’s integrated software in performing the required duties of the position.
  • Prepare memoranda independently and from oral instructions.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the College community and appropriate staff to develop and implement orientation strategies required for Transfer and Career services.
  • Use technology in order to monitor, track and apply data related to Transfer and Career services.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):

    Any combination equivalent to:

  • Completion of two years of college-level course level training and
  • Two years of increasingly responsible business/office experience.
  • Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience providing career services and job search strategies to clients and/or students.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Comfortable speaking to groups of students in a workshop setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Previous experience and/or strong interest in customer services related to first generation college students, returning students and comprehensive student success.
  • Licenses and Other Requirements:

  • Valid California’s driver’s license
  • An incumbent must be insurable at the “standard rate” by the employer’s insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias Community College District.

  • Knowledge and Abilities

    The hiring committee is seeking evidence of the following:

    Knowledge of:

  • Transfer and Career Center Processes/Procedures.
  • Word processing, spreadsheet and database related software.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • District organization, operations, policies and objectives.
  • Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws.
  • Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Fundamentals, principles, and techniques of test administration
  • Public relations and student support techniques
  • Interpersonal skill using tact, patience and courtesy
  • Ability to:

  • Prepare and deliver oral presentations.
  • Work confidentially and independently with discretion.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with regional businesses, community partners, department staff and other COS personnel.

    Organization

    College of the Sequoias is a two-year California community college offering educational and enrichment programs for the residents of its district in Tulare and Kings counties. The college was established in 1925 and moved to its current 62-acre main campus site in Visalia in 1940.

    In addition to the campus in Visalia, COS operates a full-service center in Hanford that is also home to the college's police and fire academies.

    COS also opened its Tulare College Center in January 2013. It is a full-service college center and the home of COS' agriculture program
