The Assistant Costumer, within the department of Theatre and Dance, is a part-time, 30 hours per week, 34 week position during the 2021/2022 academic year (beginning mid-August 2021 and ending May 31, 2022).

The Assistant Costumer is self-motivated, responsible, and highly creative. The individual in this role must be able to work creatively and independently to help produce successful costume designs for theatre and dance productions. This position is intended for talented college graduates seeking to pursue costume design as a career and who wish to gain more experience in preparation for graduate school or further professional work and develop their portfolio.

Job Duties:
Primary duty is to perform all responsibilities of the assistant costume designer for theatre and dance productions including all steps needed to produce successful costume designs for the stage. These steps include but are not limited to: independent research; participating in design and production meetings; close collaboration with faculty, professional staff, and students; creative paperwork based on script analysis; sourcing materials; planning and creating costumes through patterning, cutting, sewing, and crafting; participating in rehearsals and dress rehearsals; participate in costume laboratory hours; assisting the faculty costume designer and professional staff costume shop manager; periodic local travel and occasional out of the area travel to purchase fabric and supplies for productions; transportation of costumes between several locations on campus, pulling and restocking costumes, wardrobe, costume maintenance, and strike. Extra hours during evening and weekends are expected during tech and performance weeks. Creative opportunities are available for portfolio development, design, and strengthening of skills under the guidance of department faculty and professional staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre or related field
- Basic skills in costume design, patterning, cutting, sewing, and crafting
- Valid drivers license

Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional costume experience

Physical Demands:
Ability of lift 40 pounds and work from a ladder.

The Community
