Departmental Overview
The California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3) is a cooperative effort between the state of California, private industry, venture capital, and the University of California campuses at Berkeley, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz. In order to stimulate discovery at the intersection of the physical and biological sciences, QB3 promotes multidisciplinary research at world-class facilities, creates innovative educational programs, and fosters industry partnerships. The Institute's more than 180 researchers decipher the complex systems involved in living systems and discover ground-breaking applications for that basic knowledge in the areas of health, energy, and the environment.
Responsibilities
OVERVIEW:
The incumbent research technician joins a research team and will be conducting
biochemistry, molecular biology, and high-throughput assays to develop CRISPR-based diagnostics.
The incumbent will develop and carry out biochemical and molecular biological experiments and perform assays to detect genetic material derived from viruses and bacteria. In addition, the incumbent will provide training to students and less-experienced technical staff. As needed, the individual will generate and prepare reagents necessary for biochemical assays, and should have experience with protein expression and purification, RNA isolation and purification and biochemical assay development.
- Develop and carry out biochemical and molecular biological experiments and perform assays to detect genetic material derived from viruses and bacteria
- Provide training to students and less-experienced technical staff.

Required Qualifications
- Experience with molecular biology as well as with general and specific biological and biochemical techniques, methods for nucleic acid and protein preparation
- Experience in assisting and performing complex lab experiments and processing research data
- Generating reagents for biochemical and molecular biology assays.
- Performing independent experiments as part of team projects.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- BA/BS in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemical Biology or Molecular Biology and/or equiavalent years research experience/training.
- Previous wet laboratory experience.
