General Summary

In anticipation of one or two Fall 2021 openings, the School of Biological Sciences invites applications for Student Teacher Supervisors to supervise student teachers around Illinois for the upcoming academic year. The School of Biological Sciences maintains a pool of qualified persons interested in part-time, non-tenure track Student Teacher Supervisor positions. Applications are reviewed as vacancies become available. These positions are represented by the Illinois State University Education Association and may have associated dues or fees.

Travel to participating schools to observe student teachers is required. These positions involve mentoring teacher candidates in their student teaching placement. The supervisor is a liaison between ISU and the school district personnel, primarily the cooperating teacher. The supervisor is responsible for observing the student teacher on-site and/or remotely and providing a formal assessment of the teacher candidate's teaching episodes. In addition, the supervisor will assess reflection assignments written by the student teacher. The supervisor is responsible for assigning grades for the student teacher.

The supervisor will be expected to do the following:

1. Complete multiple observations of student teachers as they are teaching and interacting with students in a high school classroom.
2. Submit observations, assessments, and evaluations via use of software and programs such as Watermark.
3. Additional communication with students, supervisors, and cooperating teachers
4. Perform other duties as assigned

Regular attendance is both an expectation and a requirement for this position.

Required Qualifications

1. Master's degree in Education or a closely related field.
2. Teaching experience in Biology, or a related field.
3. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.
4. State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.

Desired Qualifications

1. Working knowledge of and experience with the Next Generation Science Standards.
2. Working knowledge of and experience with the Danielson Framework for Teaching.
3. Knowledge of edTPA

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without reasonable accommodation:

1. Ability to effectively communicate on a daily basis.
2. Ability to conduct or attend meetings in various locations across campus.
