10-May-2021 Close All Job SummaryThe Children's Center encourages applications for an Early Childhood Education II/Sub Director/Office Support position! This position will provide childcare for children of families affiliated with the University of Colorado including; residents of Family Housing Apartments, faculty, staff, students and alumni. The Children's Center is licensed through the Colorado Department of Social Services and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. This position may include supervision of classroom staff.
Positional duties from the requested class title include writing lesson plans, implementing activities to meet individual needs, leading other staff, and consulting with parents to discuss behavior/development.
This position in collaboration with the assistant director and director serves by training employees and directs information for center decisions. This position will work with all ages and all staff, supporting office administrative tasks, covering teacher and director absences.

  • Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum with other teachers by using available resources, create activities, meet individual children’s needs, and maintain the classroom areas which include science, math, language, arts, large and small motor, art, multicultural.
  • Lead and follow all NAEYC, ITERS, ECERS, Colorado Shines and licensing guidelines.
Administration and Supervision
  • Directly lead, train and provide guidance for ECE II, ECE I, students, assistants and volunteers.
  • Supervise all staff, make center decisions and scheduling adjustments.
  • Supervise and interact with children by planning and implementing age-appropriate activities.
  • Use appropriate Guidance Techniques.
  • Keep clear, comprehensive, and accurate records (incident reports, sign-in sheets, attendance, children’s records, all other paperwork).
Communication and Parent Contact
  • Maintain channels of communication with teaching teams and the office in an effective manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all communication.
  • Complete written reports as necessary including notes, accident reports, etc.
  • Provide information to parents about their child by discussion at arrival and departure time, written communications, and/or telephone calls.
  • Provide positive customer service and information, handles difficult situations with finesse.
  • Help parents to understand behavior and development.
Health and Safety
  • Ensure the safety of children by inspecting, making decisions about, and communicating indoor and outdoor equipment concerns.
  • Maintain health standards by leading and following procedures for food preparation, diapering, medication administration, licensing regulations, etc.
  • Remain current on certifications including CPR, First Aid, UP, Child Abuse, Substitute Director Qualifications and Medication Administration.
Professional Development
  • Assure continual professional growth by supporting planning and attending staff in-services, workshops, and conferences.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, working with different levels of staff, and handling a variety of situations.

Be Boulder.What We RequireThe educational requirements for the director or substitute director of a large center must be met by satisfactory completion of one of the following.
  1. A Bachelor degree in early childhood education from a regionally accredited Colorado college or university; or,
  2. A current early childhood professional Credential Level IV Version 2.0 as determined by the Colorado Department of Education; or,
  3. A master’s degree with a major emphasis in child development, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education; or,
  4. Completion of all of the following three (3) semester hour courses from a regionally accredited college or university, at either a two year, four year or graduate level, in each of the following subject or content areas:
  • Introduction to early childhood professions;
  • Introduction to early childhood lab techniques;
  • Early childhood guidance strategies for children;
  • Early childhood health, nutrition, and safety;
  • Administration of early childhood care and education programs;
  • Administration: human relations for early childhood professions or introduction to business;
  • Early childhood curriculum development;
  • Early childhood growth and development.
  • The exceptional child; and,
  • Infant/toddler theory and practice; or the Department approved expanding quality infant/toddler training; or,
  • Completion of a course of training approved by the Department that includes course content listed at Section 7.702.42, A, 3, a-j, and experience listed at Section 7.702.42, B. CODE OF COLORADO REGULATIONS 12 CCR 2509-8 Social Services Rules 43
  • The experience requirements for the director of a large center must be met by completion of the following amount of work experience in a child development program, which includes working with a group of children in such programs as a preschool, child care center, kindergarten, or Head Start program:
    1. Persons with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a major emphasis in child development, early childhood education, early childhood special education, or an early childhood professional Credential Level IV Version 2.0 as determined by the Colorado Department of Education; no additional experience is required.
    2. Persons with a 2-year college degree in early childhood education must have twelve (12) months (1,820 hours) of verified experience working directly with children in a child development program.
    3. Persons with a Bachelor's degree and completion of courses specified in Sections 7.702.42, A, 3, a-j, must have twelve (12) months (1,820 hours) of verified experience working directly with children in a child development program.
    4. Persons who have no degree but have completed the thirty (30) semester hours specified in Section 7.702.42, A, 3, a-j, must have twenty-four (24) months (3,640 hours) of verified experience working directly with children in a child development program.
    5. Verified experience acquired in a licensed Colorado family child care home or school-age child care center may count for up to half of the required experience for director qualifications. To have Colorado family child care home experience considered, the applicant must be or have been the licensee. The other half of the required experience must be working directly with children in a child development program.
    6. Experience with five (5) year olds must be verified as follows:
    • If experience caring for five-year-old children occurs in a child care center classroom, the hours worked shall be counted as preschool experience; or,
    • If experience caring for five-year-old children occurs in an elementary school program, the hours worked shall be counted as school-age experience.
    What You Will NeedAbility to provide a high-quality environment nurturing a diverse population of staff and children, ages 6 weeks through age five. Proven skills to lead, develop, supervise, plan and teach a developmentally appropriate curriculum; train and evaluate teachers and university student employees; and implement family programs while modeling appropriate language and behaviors.What We Would Like You To HaveThree years experience working in a licensed early childhood center directly with infants and/or toddlers.
