10-May-2021 Close All Job SummaryThe Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder conducts collaborative research with NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). CIRES has an immediate opening for a temporary Software Engineer. This position is a 2-3 month temporary assignment for updating NCEI’s “CrowdMag” mobile application. Ideal applicants will have experience in mobile application development. Applicant's exhibit a strong attention to detail and the ability to conceptualize user requirements into customer-friendly and efficient software applications. Experience in working with federal government agencies is a bonus. This CIRES position is located at the David Skaggs Research Center, 325 Broadway, Boulder, Colorado.

  • Develop and deploy the flight mode version of the CrowdMag mobile application.
  • Work with Google Play and Apple iTunes to update the security features of the CrowdMag app.
  • Update the CrowdMag apps on “Innovative GEOINT App Provider Program”.
  • Update CrowdMag data ingest server.

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar technical discipline. Masters preferred.
  • Experience designing and developing mobile applications (in both iOS and Android) that collect, process and transmit phone’s magnetic sensor and attitude data.
  • Experience in designing and developing crowdsourcing apps for citizen-scientists.
  • Experience in Android and iOS mobile application development.
  • Experience in collecting magnetic field data using the CrowdMag app.
  • Experience in working with Federal Government Agencies.
What You Will Need
  • Experience using version control (Git), issue tracking and continuous integration.
  • Experience in Java and JavaScript, and web application servers.
