Associate or Full Professor Specializing in Cell and Gene Therapy, Tenure Track
Perelman School of Medicine - Pediatrics

Location: Philadelphia, PA
Open Date: Mar 25, 2020
Deadline: Mar 25, 2022 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Associate Professor or Full Professor position in the tenure track. The successful applicant will have experience in fundamental research advancing cell or gene therapy technologies in cell and animal model systems. Applicants must have an M.D., M.D./Ph.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education.

Teaching responsibilities may include teaching and mentoring of students, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees.

For candidates with an M.D., clinical responsibilities may include providing inpatient and outpatient care to pediatric patients at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include maintaining an active research program. Successful applicants will have evidence of sustained federal funding and demonstrated success in one or more aspects of cell and gene therapy, with examples including virology, vectorology, and bio-engineering.

The research environment at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, the Perelman School of Medicine, and the University of Pennsylvania more broadly benefits from an integrated campus and provides abundant opportunities for cross disciplinary collaboration with world-class investigators.

The primary faculty appointment will be in a department in the Perelman School of Medicine that provides the best scientific fit, based at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Should the applicant advance technologies from the preclinical to the clinical stage, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania have a robust infrastructure to produce clinical-grade viral vectors and cell therapies and have well-developed administrative structures to meet complex regulatory requirements.

A generous recruitment package as well as excellent institutional and core research resources will be provided for the right candidate.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE. Minorities/women/individuals with disabilities/protected veterans are encouraged to apply.

Vision

As engines of knowledge and new ideas, universities have the unique potential to define the future rather than be defined by it; to pioneer change rather than merely manage it. To do so requires a plan both visionary and pragmatic. The Penn Compact 2022 motivates community members to innovate, be radically inclusive, and positively impact their local, national, and global communities.

Penn’s fundamental priorities — increasing access, integrating knowledge and engaging locally, nationally and globally — are supported by the three core values that make us uniquely Penn: inclusion, innovation, and impact.
